The inside portion of the wall

The outside portion

as you can see the outside is much more of a "rough" cast, the inside is like just a little bumpy and almost looks like it was swept or something with lines down.

It looks to me likw the inside wall was done with a wood float or perhaps a brush, the outside was done with the tyrolean (https://www.cashbuildonline.co.za/products/tyrolean-machine ) which is very difficult to match in. At my old mans place after battling with the machine and mixes I found throwing a dryish mix against the wall until it sort of matched was easier, once painted it blends in.

The machine works very nicely when you have to do a wall on its own without matching previous work.

This whole thing is giving me nightmares.

The builder I have here says your wall is uglier. :p but still the same technique, just splatter with the tyrolean (not with brush). Then inside just wipe down the wet plaster with a block brush.

lol tell your builder i said his po3s :p but thanks for the info from him :p

Anyone had rising damp fixed yet?

I've gotten two quotes to fix rising damp on 3 of the 4 walls on a outbuilding.

One company wants to dig down to the foundation all around, then waterproof the outside of the walls with some torch on stuff and waterproofing paint. Quote is R17k for 10m length of wall, including sealing the tops of the parapet walls as well.

The other company will drill holes every 150mm and inject some type of waterproofing substance, not sure what it is. They don't need to dig down to the foundation. Still waiting in this quote.

Two different techniques, digging down to the foundation will require them going into my neighbors yard too.

Any experience/suggestions?

I dont have personal experience but logic would think that treating the problem at the source (i.e digging) is the real fix, not the symptomatic fix

Is it possible to replace the entire plug trap in a sink?

POS who did our kitchen used the cheapest **** you could find, both plugs have rusted and broken in a year, and I can't find replacements that fit.

Looks like the plug is 8.9cm, locally I can only find 9cm.

are you sure the rubber just hasn't compressed and that it used to be 9cm? those are pretty standard and come in the small and large size. But yes you can replace that whole peice, there is a large nut holding it at the bottom and a washer on either side, some guys use putty on top instead of the washer.

eg:

edit, some actually have the middle with a insert bolt that you remove with a screwdriver, eg:

Measured with a caliper - we also have another sink in the kitchen with a standard 9cm - doesn't fit :/ Highly frustrating.

The traps do come in two sizes and your kitchen sink looks to be using the smaller sized one.. I have only ever seen replacement plugs for the larger sized traps though.. you can try plumblink and see if you are lucky enough to get a replacement there..

We paid this guy R300k - and we provided most of the hardware - just about everything he provided has, or will need to be replaced.

Sickening.

They don't seem to realize if they do a good job they'll get recommendations.

Ordered and received glass film to block out uv & heat. Will report back when it’s done but hoping this will reduce the need for aircon.

Summers getting worse.. already loft gets unbearable. So hoping this works

Do u have insulation in the loft?

We are purchasing a property soon, and there is a single brick wall from the outside of the house linking up until the boundary wall.

Can this be demolished without municipality permission?
