That sounds like a massive job, would a flap sanding disc on a grinder not be able to flatten it? Then you only have to paint.

i think that would work for him possibly just as well if not better (as how is the rhinolight sticking to the paint?) BUT it would be messy as hell and not easy to float

I guess it would.. But yeah dust everywhere.

Bonding liquid seems to do the trick.

I've gotten two quotes to fix rising damp on 3 of the 4 walls on a outbuilding.

One company wants to dig down to the foundation all around, then waterproof the outside of the walls with some torch on stuff and waterproofing paint. Quote is R17k for 10m length of wall, including sealing the tops of the parapet walls as well.

The other company will drill holes every 150mm and inject some type of waterproofing substance, not sure what it is. They don't need to dig down to the foundation. Still waiting in this quote.

Two different techniques, digging down to the foundation will require them going into my neighbors yard too.

Any experience/suggestions?

Digging is the suggested route from my side. The problem with having it injected is that there is no guarantee. If you choose that option they will make it clear to you. As a contractor I personally stay away from rising damp and advise my clients to go with professionals who specialise in damp... more so rising damp specifically.

Doors need new rubberized seals at the bottom and a new set of side seals as well. The springs have enough tension but the rollers themselves are starting to pull skew. Single spiral-motor with single rail pulling both doors doing just fine - doors don't jump but are squeaking quite a bit.

As for the painting, would prefer to do spray as much easier. I would rather a pro take the doors off and fit again as I am sure it's a 2-man job at least to release the tension and remove the doors.

I think it may be more cost effective to completely replace the doors, seeing as I want to paint anyway, with brand new. I see Builders sells (standard?) Robmeg Zincalume roller doors. Just depends what the difference is between paying a chap to remove the doors and replace seals and doors after I have painted them.

I have a quote R6950 to install new with automation and battery backup.
Grey in colour
Not bad actually
 
On the topic of automated garage doors, today I left the house while it was raining and I was in the driveway waiting for the door to close after I pulled my car out.

The door closed and started opening right away again. I noticed this behaviour a few months ago, also while it was raining. I thought it was a fluke but I am starting to see a pattern now.

Could it be that the rails that the door runs on need some lubrication? It's a roller door type, and quite old from the looks of it - but free of rust
 
Has anyone ever used the bull float to do their slab? I'll be attempting to do DIY slab to the pedestrian gate.
 
Hey guys,

Anyone recommend me a painter in Joburg? I'm not doing it myself, too busy at work.

What's a ballpark cost (paint included) for a ~100 square metre flat? Interior only.
