arent the doors shiny now? or did you go with an eggshell enamel?

if you did, do you think this would also work for the frames?

Will update this post with a pic shortly, no - I went with a satin enamel I had left from doing the skirting boards - did the door frames and doors with the same paint.

Lighting is a bit crap.

If going white I normally recommend Duram polyurethane enamel. Does not leave that shiny gloss finish. Alternatively if you want that finish then go with a gloss enamel.

Pva works as well. Same approach, light sand and then paint. If changing to a completely different colour I would always use a primer first. Getting a slight white undercoat leaves you with a better finish than trying to paint one colour over another. Prevents the old colour from showing through your new colour

So if i wanted to do the doors and frames then Duram polyurethane enamel ? walls are just off white currently, the frames look terrible because they obviously have that slight yellow tinge of years of color change due to sunlight etc.

yeah that looks good, nice doors and framing also :D i have the run of the mill peasant option :p

Mine is the run of the mill cheap crap - think 350 a door - you should have seen them before I painted them.

I also replaced the handles when I painted. They had those horrible cheap handles - these ones were also cheap, but better looking.

mine are pretty cr@p, the regular flat old school ones, the only reason i am not sold on replacing them is that these older ones are imo sturdier and more solid, helps for internal security and privacy. I do like the paneling on your type though.

That's right. Will brighten them up nicely. 2 coats should do the trick. Don't make the mistake of trying to save paint by spreading it to thin.

Also we remove the handles and paint the entire door.

My favourite however is this...

So, starting planning on next project which is finally one I get to enjoy, we're redoing the lapa! Decided to remove the existing thatch and structure completely, build the braai pictured (not convinced on doing full built in again) and then structure in second picture.

Tips and advice appreciated.

Nice I like. My only advice is to ensure that there is decent isolation in-between the roof and ceiling.

I also some years ago did away with the thatch and have never looked back.

any idea where to get the freestanding braai like in the picture? seems everyone has a surplus of built ins which I don't want.

Thanks, also found that the suppliers website!

Two weeks to go till project starts.

Installing a 5000l tank for the borehole from today, with switch over to supply house. I know the bylaws don't like it but they can go fek themselves. We are without water at least a day a week now with old pipes breaking in the suburb.

Afaik I know it's legal to use in the house but you have to test the water twice a year.
