Pump powers up but just hear a humming sound. I can see sand and small stones in the filter cage - something that was never there before. Now just wondering - as I did want to do pool pump enclosure and was planning to replace pool filter sand, do I try repair or just do full replace of everything - then will be happy that everything is hopefully sorted for the next few years.

Amazing, when the repair bill for repair/renovation hits 240k , 12k extra doesn't feel crazy. Assuming that's what it would cost to get new 1.1kw motor and filter sand thingee..

Open the pump lid and stick your fingers down into where the impeller is and try turning it (pump off obviously and basket out) try move it a little and feel around for anything. I can bet it will start up after that.

A new pump is about 3-4k, and the sand filter etc about another 3, probably around 9 all in with plumbing etc.

These guys sorted me out on my pool
It was R10k for a 0.75kw pump, 3 sand filter, new housing and timer.
Unless you're pumping water on to your roof to heat it or have a massive pool 0.75kw should be fine.

Very big pool (120kl) and also sending to roof. 1.1kw will be like for like replacement. Will check them out thx.

Anyone have tips on drilling into vibracrete? I want to do outdoor lighting, and run an electrical conduit along the vibracrete.

yeah a makita hammer drill :p but in seriousness it really isn't that bad, personally i would stick to the pillars. are you planning to run it on top?

Does anyone have some knowledge on what steel is used to make braai cowls? My builder is having a custom one made for me and I want to check with him what steel they are using so that the thing doesn't start to rust as soon as they are done with the job. I know it's not stainless steel as that's out of my price range.

I haven't actually tried in years, my only experience was seizing the drill bit in the chuck with my first drill - a Black and Decker POS. (which always lay in my toolbox afterwards, and was stolen by dodgy builders, much to my amusement)

I have a midrange Bosch Professional now, can't recall the model, its about 10 years old - so let's see if its up to the job. (also have a cordless - but - doubt it'll do the job)

Haven't decided on where to run the conduit yet - first need to decide on lights - either mid-level - or just below ground.

the issue with running it anywhere but on top is that the wall isnt flat?

Top is shared with neighbours though, I don't think they'd appreciate a random conduit appearing on the top of the wall... Need to decide what type of lighting I want to run though... if the lights will mount to the wall itself, or if they'll come out to a light bollard

the second would be FAR cheaper.

i guess they you could use a bender and contour it to go from the pillars to the wall. Personally i would rather then just put lights on the house shining out.

Busy with bathroom renovations and saw a black basin and toilet at Italtile. But at R15k I’m not buying it.

Has anybody seen black toilets that are more reasonably priced meaning less than R4k?

Any reason to stick with white toilet and basin? Can also do that and just go for black taps, showers etc

Stick to white. In 10 years will still look fine, black will look dated.

Was also looking at a black toilet and the only place I could find on was italtile at R20k. This one is nicer.
Ended up going for white.
Was able to find a black basin at R600 at blue tile.

Also the wall hung toilets gives a much cleaner look to your bathroom.

And you can then use a black flush plate instead
