As part of our renovations I'm losing my little 3 x 3 garage workshop space, but I've got an area of about 4x2m that I want to put a carport up and a garage/shutter door of sorts to use as a workshop.

I know it's going to be a sauna in there regardless, but what are the better options for roofing to get light in there?
Clear IBR? Or are there better options.

It's going to impact on the window that goes to the laundry room on the right, so was hoping to use clear sheets.
Any recommendations?

Clear sheets are great if you want lots of light, but they are hot and in some ways amplify the light (or at least the glaring aspect of it)..

I would suggest either going with Solar Control or Bronze sheeting.. they will let 30 - 50% of the light in.

slight hijack, how are you finding your clear panels? do you regret them and think you should have gone with something else or do you love them?

I find them absolutely fine for the job I wanted... They do glare a bit, but nothing that isn't manageable or unexpected.

If money was no object then I would have gone multiwall polycarb instead, but that was 3 times the price.

I only need like 10m2, so maybe I should look at this as well.

10sqm will probably hit your fro around R20k if you get someone to come in and do it.. (thumbsuck number based on my 36sqm awning getting a quote of around R80k)

ouch, that's a bit more than I would have hoped for.
 
IBR poly 0.8mm sheeting should be around R95-R150 plm(inland pricing). Ive used clear for my gym area as I wanted it bright. I second the glare comment, not comfortable as roofing for a gym area

cool the guy will show me samples but it is very possible we will go with a bronze

Bronze is quite decent...

If I was doing a white frame for my awning I would have gone with the bronze sheets as the colours work together, though I would have needed 4 sheets rather than 3 to get sufficient light transfer.
With the Charcoal frame, then Bronze would look weird.

Hmmm.

Gets full sun there so hopefully they'll bugger off, weird thing is that I've never seen a wasp at this house.

Get a quote for S10 reflective glass too. Will be a lot cooler than ibr and let through plenty of light.

That's better pricing that I've found looking around local places in Cape Town.
Our stoep has an ancient fiberglass sheet roof which is not surviving this winter and needs to be replaced.
Does anyone here abouts have a recommendation for a supplier, I would need about 40sqm.
