This! I actually asked a fellow contractor this bit about pride. Sadly he said “business is business “
Mmm.... My money is my money. I work hard for it. SO now i just don't pay. Will complain, swear, threaten till it's done like i want it. Or chase the fcker away like the last one, without pay.

100%, its all about how much can we screw a person rather than building sustainable relationships
That's pretty much what I told my builder yesterday... Told him that if I find a good builder/tiler/painter... I'll use you for the rest of my life - whether that means in my current house or in a R50m Clifton house if that ever happened.

I have a paving guy now that I have used for the last 8 years, and a gate guy... They will always have my business and that of my family.

i would call them back to clean. If we damage things we either fix or come to an agreement the client is happy with. Once everyone is happy payment can be made
Yeah, and it's about compromise and having a good relationship - both ways.

The builders damaged my gate motor yesterday, it's old and was going to be replaced... but when the cement mixer was delivered I think the delivery guys knocked the motor somehow.

In return the builder is giving his guys labour free to pressure clean and repaint my roof. More than a fair trade for me.

Same. If you provide me with good and reliable service and I get the feeling you have integrity, you're stuck with me for life I'm afraid. I'll reciprocate by paying on time and not being a pain in the ass when work turns out to be more complex or longer running than quoted for.

Hells no... They must clean up after themselves..
This, ever since I had a company replace my windows and make a mess of the yard, I always make it clear to them before they start working that they must clean up when they're done.

Another peeve is when they throw their cigarette butts in the yard. I don't want to pick that **** up. If they need to smoke it has to be done off the property.

Why can't you live in Durban?

I desperately looked for a contractor like you and just couldn't find one :(

Hopefully my current build goes better. Although the builder just gave the guys an earfull because the building site isn't neat enough - it's a good sign.

He didn't follow through though. Makes me so befok.

Need some advice from any contractors here. I'm going to be replacing my existing flattish garage roof of 62m2 IBR roofing this summer.

I've been recommended these two options.

1. Kliplok / springlok

2. Board and torch

I've done some research on both but just want to here the pros and cons for both.

Thanks.

personally not a fan of board and torch, have done too many repairs on them.
Kliplok, just make sure your guys actually know how to do it.

use guys who do roofing for this and not a general contractor. I’ve turned down plenty of roof jobs and handed over to someone as my guys are not skilled in this. Even though they could probably do it with my guidance, I’d rather not do it.

Thanks. May I ask what type of repairs are required and from what was the cause?
