So the rubbish plumber is apparently also the certified wiring electrician, this is his work... the db board has been cemented in at this glorious angle.

A level...? Not even once.

Where in the actual F is the pride in a persons work nowadays?
No wonder we mostly want to DIY these types of installations if this is the type of work being done by "professionals"

What a joke...

Dried cement or not, there is no ways that you can accept that.
you have to make a firm point now

Yeah, it starts slipping with these little things - and you can't fix them afterwards.
The builder replaced the plumber after my last outburst, which is costing him more... if he's not careful I'm getting my own sparky and deducting it from his money.

People just don't take pride in their work. Maybe I'm full of shît, but even if something is going to be plastered over... or behind a cover... why must your pipes be skew? Make the fkn stuff straight, it will take you 2 minutes longer to first draw a line with a level.

Just zero pride in their work unfortunately. "It's not my property so why should I care?"

I have seen this with installers that were sent out by insurance to replace burst pipes about a year ago. They do just enough to justify their work but don't clean up after digging up the paving and replace the paving completely haphazardly etc etc ad nauseum. It's frustrating beyond words.

To be on the safe route I use IP rated GU10 fittings for downlights in the soffit outside and the bathrooms... Just bought 8 of them new for our new build.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you perhaps share the URL for the fittings you bought? Or even the brand and model number?

Thanks a lot.

You've got to put your foot down. Aparently i wasn't the only one who chased my builder from site. Last week Friday we had our first little bit of rain - And my roof leaked where the fcker joined my stoep roof. I named and shamed the contractor on our local group and soon got a message from another angry dude who also chased this p0es from his house.

No man that's looking kark...my kids could have done a neater job than that. Re the DB pic - has the chasing for the PVC conduit entering the top of the DB been done properly?

Do you have to change the building plans, if you want to change the type of fence being put up? I wanted a half wall with wooden beams in-between but now I decided I don't like how my neighbours look and want a full solid wall.

To my knowledge you'll only need new plans if you go over 2.1m, and I think over 2.4m you need an engineer.

Edit: This is just according to what I've gone through now though in CoCT, yours may be different.

A question about mixed electrical circuits, not sure if anyone knows.

I'm having power put at my front gate for a replacement motor (my old motor has 12v from the house, new motor is 220v). At the same time I also want to install lights in front.

Now my understanding is that there is nothing wrong with having a mixed lights/plug circuit, provided it's marked accordingly. What I'm not sure about though is do I have two separate isolator switches in the box I put in front? Or isolator switch on gate, normal light switch on lights?

Don't know about legally what is required but, practically it makes sense to isolate them both, so you can work on one and not affect the other..

Please isolate us from your plumber / electrician. Protect him from himself.

I got a new plumber from the builder... but there must be something wrong with his measuring tape.

The toilet cistern that's now plastered into the wall is 1.5cm off centre, so 3cm closer to one wall than the other.

He probably used one of those awesome Chinese measuring tapes marked in Inches on the top and Centimetres on the bottom...

Permobond..

In the video on the link they showcase it with exactly your use case..

Going to tackle this in the afternoon (well - my gardener is)...

Looking at the TDS - what would be the correct mixing ration?

I'm assuming it'll fall under "Painting onto an old friable, porous
surface" - so 1:3?

With our renovations I'm trying to keep money aside for a bonus for the builder, should everything go well... There have been some snags so far, but nothing he hasn't been sure to sort out.

Anyone here pay bonus's to the builder for a biggish project? If so, how much?
For reference the builder's cost for these renovations are R320k.

Hell no, no bonus. The builder has built in their profit margin into that cost.
