A quick one for you guys tonight - we'd like to attach some of those droppers that have been strung together to one of our walls just to get a little bit more privacy in the yard.

We'll probably end up buying the 2m tall ones, and bury it 20cm into the ground adjacent to the wall and have the height set at 1.8m, sort of like the pic below but of course buried a bit and not floating.

What's the best way to attach it to the wall? It's a facebrick wall, so I was thinking some aluminium brackets attached to the wall with some nail-in anchors? Is there a simpler way to tackle this?

These ones are supposedly treated (probably kreosote) so should last a while. I think it's black wattle or some similar type of tree

Sorry assumed they were the reeds. The wood will definitely last longer

I paid R13k now for a roughly 900x2000mm shutter for a window with Magnador. Being fitted in a couple of weeks

I had burglar bars fitted by Magnador last year - asked for a quote on shutters for 1 window and it was 10x more than horizontal bars. I went with the horizontal bars :laugh:

I'll look at PVC windows and shutters with my next house, hopefully they'll be the standard by then.

Yeah the shutters are crazy expensive. We only doing it because we've broken out our kitchen window into the new braai area as a serving hatch, but want to be able to close/secure it.

For a 1200x900mm window with upvc and shutters you're probably looking at 25k, my best guess.

yeah, lets just say it started with one that was bought the wrong size, eventually found the right one, then everything that could be wrong went wrong.

needed a new tap hole, the trap piping didnt line up, the supplies rusted out, the clips couldnt bite anywhere cause the granite was too thick etc etc

the old one didn't even have clips, just 20kg of silicone
 
So our first real screw up on our renovations. I bought this fancy shower channel which is supposed to look like this when done:

Instead, my plumber and tiler did this:

My options are:

1. Chop up the floor, hopefully not damage the shower channel, and re-tile.
2. Just tile over this existing tile, but my shower will no longer be walk-in (not that it mattered too much), and will be raised about 10mm.

Option 2 at least saves me having to potentially spend R2.5k on a new channel.
Worst thing though is that there is no stock anywhere in the country of this mosaic anymore, like nothing. So now we need to find new mosaic, which has my SO rather unhappy.

Other thing is that this channel comes with butyl tape (see here
) which the guys must have thrown away, so now I need to find something similar to use. The only butyl tape I know is the thick one with the foil on one side for roofing, anyone see something similar to what's in this video?
 
I think my shower is the same one, similiar tiles as well. I sat with the guy when he was doing it because I could see problems coming - he had no idea, to be fair, the instructions were pretty crappy if you don't have experience with them.

The grouting around yours also looks wrong.

EDIT: just realised now how wrong it is :-O

That one in the first pic looks like a Wirquin, we have the 700mm version and the instructions are pretty clear. I had to supervise the plumber when they installed it, cos they didn't have a clue!

Not sure what the guy did there, terrible!

EDIT: Just saw the video...is Wirquin.
Try calling Samantha at Wirquin on O78 8OO 4477. She arranged some spares for mine; she may be able to assist with replacement tape ;)

One of our geysers "burst". Considering installing a gas replacement. What is the current wisdom around gas geysers? Yay or Nay?

Not clued up on gas geysers, busy looking at a heat pump geyser for home to help reduce electricity costs.
