I was recently quoted about 12k to replace all my cupboard fittings - boxes - and put on handles, that's for the entire kitchen, only keeping the carcasses and fronts

I also got a quote for R30k to do 5 tall bedroom cupboards from a different place.
And a quote for R80k to do a simple C shaped kitchen, for the granny flat so not big at all.

Seeing prices like these makes me wonder if I should've bought a house with pre-installed kitchen cupboards.

Hello all, could you please reccomend me a good builder in Pretoria that wont try to shaft me? Dont want to just have someone off gumtree take a deposit and run but dont want to use my current guy either as it seems now that hes done one job for me he wants to rip me a new one for subsequent jobs.

Ill also create a new thread for this incase it is missed in this one

Quick one. Why is the handle on the wall side?
Well spotted. Was the first cupboard I did and I screwed up the handle placement, so I had to turn the door the other way around.

May leave it like that, or if it really bugs me then have a new door cut.

So today fitted my first motorized loft staircase. Everything mounted and working with just some nip tuck needed for clearances. Then automation takes place. Will make a video.

Greetings fellow home improvers. It's been a while since I looked in here.

Below is a rough plan of where I want to change a wall. It's an old house with multiple additions over the years.

I'd like to extend the room outwards as indicated by the arrows, putting it in-line with the current external wall. I'm OK with just taking the window out, leaving the archway as added structural support and then just building a new wall with new window.

My question is regarding the new foundations... does it need to be tied into existing foundations? If so I'm assuming just using standard rebar?

Please note the 2 rooms on the right (Level 2) is about half a metre lower than the rest of the house on level 1.. so how would that affect things?

Many thanks!

What are the chances heated towel rails use standard spacing?

Bought one in August 2018 - and its just packed up, thought it would be ok, because I remember them saying it had a 10 year warranty - and then a 5 year warranty on some of the other parts. Now I discover that the actual electronics (timer) is only 1 year. So potentially R7k gone.

Yeah you will need to tie the foundations into the existing...

Rebar and probably also have them "key" into or under the existing ones has been my experience with what building inspectors generally require.

As for the rooms being lower, well it would impact things from a waterproofing, existing wall strength etc etc point of view probably, but these are all totally solvable problems.

I would say about 0% chance.

Pretty much what I'm expecting :( Spent about R2k more on the model with the electronic timer - and obviously that's the part that packs up - which also almost no warranty, wouldn't have bought it if I knew, shows again, read the fine print.

what is actually wrong?

Is there no way to just bypass the timer though? or somehow fix it?

I do domestic repairs, was mainly finish joinery but get all sorts of requests when see my equipment and work....really great believer in KISS and quality, and taking a good hard look at things I'm asked to install as much is glitter sans substance for longevity....and not repairable/ replaceable leading to future misery.
