Hi everyone,

So I'm looking for recommendations for a roofing repair contractor to repair part of my ceiling that collapsed a couple of weeks ago. The collapse was apparently due to 'bad workmanship', in that an inadequate gutter was installed where two roofs meet -not installed by me, but by whoever did the original addition work.

I already have got one quote, but it's shockingly high; though the work & materials seem quite extensive & involved. So I basically want it done right, but at the same time I want to be sure I'm not being 'taken to the cleaners', so to speak.

TIA

PS My house is in the northern suburbs of Cape Town (Bellville).

@Smokey mcpot can probably sort you out?

Final update on my pond.

Water cleared up nicely and fish are happy. Picture doesn't do it justice as its difficult taking focus pics of the fish with all the surface water movement. Turned off the pump to get this pic.

Pic was taken standing so about 1.2m from the surface of the pond with no zoom applied. Pond is just under 0.5m deep and clarity is crystal clear with zero filtration besides the natural process down the stream and a pump with no built in filter. 20210614_194245.jpg

Looks great, where did you get the pond liner from?

Today we start my backyard remodel. Old crappy deck coming out. Pool being redone. New patio layout and landscaping thereafter.

Looks like its dpc that he used. Same thing we use under walls and floors as a waterproofing measure. Can be bought in rolls of different sizes.

Not sure on his thickness, but I don't think you'd use anything under 150 microns.

Correct. I think mine was 200/250 micron. Builders is the only hardware I found that had smaller sized rolls. Others only had 25m rolls in different widths.

The higher the number the thicker which is better. Especially since it's for a pond.

Yeah they normally start in 20m rolls. You can however also contact buco and ask them for a custom size and they can try and source it for you. In one of my pictures on this thread I need drop sheet to cover the lounge floor. Buco managed to get me a 7x10 sheet.

Hi Everyone , been reading all the threads love the info .

Anyone know a reputable fireplace installer with good references, ive seen Megamaster preferred list of installers but unsure who to pull the trigger with . Its for a freestanding wood fireplace, Johannesburg South..

Also need a slate roof repairer need some broken Roof slate tiles replaced and small gaps closed.

Have fun dude...

I need to do a similar with my Jacuzzi sometime soon, just keep putting it off because its going to be a PITA.

Room make over in the next two to three weeks.. not skimming the walls, unfortunately.. new cupboard and vinyl floor and new skirtings.. already removed the carpet some time ago.. was old and after the last industrial cleaning, it smelled terrible so the underlay has seen some wear, cause the room is still occupied..

There were major renovations done some time in the history of the house, which is why there are the mismatch patterns on the wall, where a window used to be and the odd location of the plug and light switch.. won't be moving the light switch, but the plug will move since the new cupboard will be on the side where the existing plug is..

Yeah it's why I attempted rhinoliting in my place, as all the new rooms were smooth walls but the old ones were those old bubble walls. Let us know how the renovation goes.

Will it be better and more cost effective to buy a Trellidor or Xpanda sliding gate for a normal size sliding door or have a gate made up?

I dont need the gate to open all of the way past the non sliding door part, only the sliding part.

made up, even a made up trelli type door, you will get better quality for the same sort of price

This depends on the intricacies, style and steel used for the gate that is being made up and how long it will take to make up the gate.. then there is the cost of galvanizing and powder coating.. for a decent, strong made up gate installed on the most secure way, you are probably looking at more costly than trellidoor stuff..

At the same time, security is not where you want to be skimping on, so there is that..

Yeah, these cheap off the shelf diy gates you buy from builders are near useless.

I also avoid trellidoor after a R4k gate they installed by my brother in law was just nicely pulled out of the wall within seconds.

Awesome, I need 3. It will be a normal style gate with vertical bars, nothing fancy.
