Agree 100%, you might not need or want it now, but just put it in while you can. Many headaches have been avoided by using pre-existing conduit.
Just to add to those headaches... ask @SAguy How much fun it is to run new conduits. I couldn't leave his place quick enough thinking he might ask me for a hand

Says the guy who is supposed to run new conduits for me next week..
Yours will be easy. Maybe @SAguy Will tell you how much fun he had.

Dude was sweating wearing nothing but a hot pants and safety goggles. I didn't know if he was working or trying to shoot a music video. In fact I dont know if he was playing music or if it was just all in my head with the music matching the situation... it's raining men!

Dude I put that outfit on just for you and now you come share my secrets here.

But jassis, chopping out that concrete driveway was hard work - even with a jackhammer. My nipples are still vibrating...

Me and my illiterate self not being able to read between the lines! The baby oil all over should have been a dead give away... if that wasn't clear enough the text about "needing my services" should have made it clear.

By no means was that a fun job. Really applaud you for tackling it by yourself. No way I would have done it myself at my own place.

Best type of cowls for brick fireplace with chimney?

I think the most important thing is that your chimney is high enough, otherwise the cowl type imo doesnt make a mega difference, im quite partial to fixed type of cowl, others will probably like the tornado type

I also say a fixed cowl or one of those spinny ones if the fireplace doesn't pull the smoke out quick enough.

We had a 'weerhaan' by our old place and it was damn noisy whenever the wind picked up even the slightest bit.

Im actually trying to decide between the 2 you mentioned. My concern with the spinning ones are whether or not they also pull a lot of heat out.

If you ever needed to run cables to the other side I would run conduit at this stage. Even if theres only draw wire in there. Never know when you might want lights, camera, access point or anything else that needs a wire.
This. Tho I would run a 50mm pipe, not just conduit.

If you're willing to put in the hours then of course you can diy it.
What's the sizing on their quote? The big difference is that they might be getting everything cheaper since they buy bulk.

The quote isn't bad. About 2k for 24 spikes. 3k for labour (which I understand). And the rest is additional things to protect them from making nests under the solar panels.

24 spikes, so about 12m ?
Assuming the other stuff will be reflectors etc.
If you're in CT feel free to pop me a PM and I can have a look for you some time. As i always tell everyone, advice is free

Based on the one I have which I got with my free standing braai, is not too hard to DIY.. sheet metal and round/flat bar is what mine is made from..
I'm going to make one, but not from sheet metal. Too expensive to buy a sheet and cutting is a biatch.
Looked at buying a stand alone one, fck, it's expensive.
