This is why it's cheaper to get a gym membership even if it's only for swimming. The cost of the gym membership is far cheaper than just the monthly costs of chlorine, etc

The first time I get a major issue with the pool , it's gonna be converted to an underground cellar / JoJo tank holder.
How much chlorine are using? I mean an 8kg is about R300.

Yeah, and just like a gym membership, their pool goes completely unused. I don’t think either of them (in-laws) have so much as dipped a toe in the water.

So since my pool is about a 120KL , two floaters, plus maybe a few cups of chlorine every few days. I normally look for HTH specials and buy the 25Kg or recently the 15Kg specials (which cost about R500). In cases of the mud tsunami last week (unexpected) and my pool always over filling when raining (nice problem to have), 8 cups of chlorine in one go.

Thankfully, its normally only HTH chlorine getting thrown into my pool but still expensive. 'Using' a pool - gym would be cheaper (as it would be heated) and I haven't included the costs of my mental health of ensuring pool is not a pond, and then the electricity running costs of a 1.1Kw Pump for 6-8 hours a day in Summer and every alternate day in Winter. Pool pump power stats for this year:-

Ah ok in your case that seems right.

I have recently embarked on the process of replacing the front boundary wall. The old wall was crumbling and leaning due to tree roots pushing it and I was scared that it would fall over soon. There was also a lot of shrubbery growing along the inside leaning on the wall.

Took 2 days to remove the plants and break down the old wall - the last section I kicked over and the bricks split from the mortar as shown in the image. 4 days to dig foundation as the height difference in the top end of the property and lower end is about 1,5m. 5 days of building with today being the last day.

Existing gate is staying. Adding 2 garage doors for the 2 cars used by my teenaged kids and a garden gate for use by garden services etc.

"Project managed" it myself with 2 builders and 2 general labourers.

Hmmm looks like someone has a backwash pipe running into the streets...

Our law prohibits the disposal of backwash water from swimming pools into the road or stormwater system as its chemical content is unsafe for naturally existing ecosystems. Therefore, the water originating from the backwash of a swimming pool must flow to the sewage system.

your pool is 120kl? seems extreme from that picture you posted previously, i would say like tops 60kl

length, width and average depth(or shallow and deep end depths approx)?

also just my opinion, i prefer the aqua pro chlorine, its slightly cheaper and doesnt have the blue speckles

Had to backwash mine a few times. I think I need to change the sand though; because I keep getting sand in the pool on the steps, which is near the inlet.

dust or sand?

i had constant issues with dust, i prob also need to change my sand but the only way I eventually dot rid of it was to vacuum it out to waste, then use a clarifier block and a gym sock over the pool outlet

Sand. I am going to try the waste thing a few times to see if it eventually clears up. Otherwise replace the filter sand.

I did not know this. Mine runs down the drive into the street.

Big pool comes with big cost.

My in-laws have a lap pool - 4x20m and that thing has cost them a fortune in repairs and water bills. And they’ve had to redo the deck 3 times around it as well due to the issues with the pool. They have one of those automated slatted pool covers and that’s also been repaired at least twice in the last 7 or so years they’ve had that house.

I reckon their repair costs on that pool must surpass what we paid for our house by now.

No questions that a big pool comes with a big cost...

But at the very least a lap pool would be useful to me, whereas a splash pool is not really

Yup it's actually illegal, but I see it happen a lot. I have mine run into a jojo tank. Which when I need to empty it goes into the sewerage system.

I'll be looking at one of the backwash tanks Builders sell.

I'm looking for the same thing in CT.
No one bothers to respond it seems unless it's a big job.

damn automation is cape town is bad

the one guy did my motor ...dad swore him cos he said one thing and did another

now ignores me

he has to still cage up some of my other stuff but no response

So you made me do the calc as I took the value the previous owners had told me. Measured and it's 108KL

Deep end is 2.2m (who knows why)

I was reluctant to share. Thanks for confirming that it was a bad idea.
