I need to replace some skirting in my house. What’s the best method to fix new skirting to the wall? Is there a type of glue that one uses?

Also, with this crappy weather is painting indoors still okay for paint to sufficiently dry?

In the past I just glued mine on, when they did floor and skirting in our new house they also glued it on, although I'm not sure what they used.

I tried doing wall plugs at one point but honestly doesn't seem worth the effort.

The little ones throne. He isn’t into it though, and Leroy Merlin had soft close toilet seat with a kiddie seat insert at R199 recently, and that seems to be more comfortable for him. Just a soft close seat at R199 would’ve been a good deal.

So cute but typical of children, if he's not keen he won't use it :D

I use 'No More Nails', but if your walls aren't straight and flat (mine aren't) you might need to use a wall plug here and there

We have a small thatch lapa at the new house but the insurance wants it treated and a lightning pole fitted. It needs maintenance as well. Wanted to do the Harvey tiles but insurance says this doesn't impact the risk. What alternatives are there to replace the thatch. The lapa has 5 sections that each angle slightly away from the previous one to create almost a flat U shape. So tiling or sheeting will be difficult with plenty of joints. Anything else I can do?
Ja no rip it out and build a nice steel structure, I beams with chromadeck roofing.

I would investigate the option of some form of canvas or tent fabric. Without knowing the design it's difficult to say, just putting it out there as an option.

Or redesign the whole thing and make the roof out of solar panels!

I wouldn’t bother with no nails unless the skirting and walls are dead straight and you have lots of patience. I started out this way and eventually gave up. Very difficult to have it all held in place until it dries.
Masonary nails are much easier, once in a tiny bit of acrylic over the head and a touch of paint and you can’t see them.
You normally have to add acrylic in the gaps between boards and the wall anyway.

Wall bands - are shelving brackets and bands interchangeable between brands?

Gelmar- their own brand?
Builders - Sanlic and Dolle
Leroy Merlin - Mackie

Need to install a small rack now and expand next year and don't want to end up with brackets that don't fit.

Tks

I want to install a plug in an area that doesn't have one. The area does have a light switch, above where I want to put the plug. Is it an easy task for an electrician to install a plug like this? Do they just use existing wiring from the switch?

Lights and plugs typically on a separate circuit. Having the light switch close will mean they can extend the conduit easily and tap into existing plug circuit in the ceiling.

So yes does make it easier and less work = less expensive

I bought mine from Builders. What annoys me is that its so hard to find the one that uses the top rail. Which is much much easier to install.
Something like this, but the one that they sold at builders was simpler.

I have a ton of those with shelves in storage. Decided to use some to get all my kak off the floor. Was quite a mission to install, getting the levels correct etc. What brand to go with I cant help. I guess they all fit in each other?
Pro-tip: I used spray paint cans to change the color of all the steel parts and painted the shelves matching. Looks a lot neater.

Almost certain it's interchangeable - just be careful, you get the single and double slots so long as that's all the same I reckon you're all good.

Gelmar and Builders are interchangeable for the double slot bands and shelf brackets. LM are different spacings...
Just did a massive 2-wall project with them and found out the hard way!
Biggest bit of advice, plan the spacing carefully!

Edit: and use decent screws and rawl plugs, like Fischer.
That knock-in rubbish won't work well at all. I used the Fischer 6mm plugs and 4.5mm X 45mm or 65mm screws, both from LM (cheaper and had bulk boxes).

I am another Fischer believer. Nail in plugs are garbage. Ok for picture frames but whenever you work with some weight, you need the real deal. Unless its so heavy that you need rawl bolts.

Thanks for this, LM did worry me a bit so will avoid, their stuff always seems to be non-standard. Also love Fischer, nice to know which screws to use so tks for that too after getting different advice from Gelmar, Builders and LM.

I hear you about planning  Going to start small with 3 x 1524 uprights installed 600mm apart and 12 x 300mm brackets. 4 x shelves each 1395 long with bottom shelf 400mm from the floor.

It's a Xmas present to me from my family

Looks great, are your shelves 300mm?

Painting's a good idea because at the moment only white uprights and silver shelves are available.

Decided to get a contractor to install so if he doesn't get it right I can complain - a la Karen.
