Thanks for the feedback Manny, much appreciated. Yeah agree that prep work is more important than the actual painting

Totally agree the prep work is super important. You can put the best paint over a kak surface, but it will not give you the expected results.

21 days? Did you quote them per day or for the whole job? :ROFL:

I quoted on the job, budgeting on 12 days prep.
But the more loose plaster we chopped, the more we had to chop.
We've now replastered 1/3rd of the outside of his house. So a 10 day knock. But we are nearly done.

Fortunately after this I'm doing the inside of the house, so in the grand scheme if things we'll be OK.
The important thing is to get it 100% right....

I just changed my driveway gate and we opted to build brick pillars as we plan to change the front and back walls from vibercrete to brick walls. Now this meant all the wiring is gate motor, electric fence had to be redone. I am trying to avoid the last bit of wiring which will be for lights by going solar. I am however, not finding lots of solar options out there and the descriptions on what I find doesn’t give me an indication of how bright these lights are.

Does anyone use a solar post light for their front gate ? Do share a link.
Does anyone know this one? https://solight.co.za/product/solar-garden-light-pearl1 How does it work? It says only 1 W, that seems not too bright even for a led light.

They are meh. And they get stolen. Pull cables and do it propper.
 
Can anyone solve my dilemma, I recently installed these mosaic tiles in the bathroom. I wanted black tiles with black grout. But as you can see the black grout is now slowly turning lighter and lighter. It's been about a year. I've read up its something in the cement that seeps through, I don't know.

I have tried cleaning and scrubbing it with every known chemical on the planet, nothing.

I'm left with either using a white grout pen and try make them all white or paint it black?

Any ideas, anyone else have this issue?

its quite common, you can try using a hard brush to clean it, will be a hard time consuming job, easiest will probably be to use some concrete stain

Otherwise find a inconspicuous space and put a drop of olive oil on a bit of the grout, leave it for 20 mins then dry wipe it, let us know the result

Whenever a client says they want this or that colour grout, I tell them I only use Dove Grey, because, within 6 months, it will be Dove Grey anyway.

Unless it's white wall tiles, then I use white.

Solight is good, i have a couple Mars1 lights around the garden from them and they work great.
Last all night on dim and are very bright when they sense movement.

Much better quility than the crap you get at builders/lee roy merlin.

I wish I knew this before, doh.

Could I use a white tile grout pen and make the grout lines white? Would that work or would that be a disaster. I looked up the "oil" but they say if you use oil then you can never change the colour ever again so I am hesitant on that one for now.

The oil is just a test, if it works then there is a product you need to buy, but it will mean you cannot change colour again because it is also a sealer, grout isn't meant to be changed in colour anyway generally

morning, ok I tested the olive oil yesterday. I rubbed it into a few blocks tile grout and left it there (I did forget about it and wiped it off about 4 hours later lol.) I have used the shower twice since then and the grout seems to black again.... good job, do you know how long it will last? Do I have to use expensive olive oil or can I use any oil?

not many cycles on that battery? Can you buy a replacement for it when it goes...

ok so now that means you need to use a specific product which will work with the same effect and seal it, the oil was really just a test.

Folks I have an unusual question. The tree line is starting to negatively affect my views - looking at getting permission from the Estate to trim the top/leading branches of the trees in the pic below.

I appreciate that in all likelihood Winter would have been best to do this, but I hadn’t expected what looks like a 1m bump in the tree.

Should we wait for winter again to trim or rather get it doneasap?

What would a wood smith gardening service change for something like this ?

Note: that’s my neighbours yard in the foreground - this is taken from my balcony.

These look great - can you give us an idea of how long the light stays on at full brightness when triggered by motion?
