The Home Improvements Thread (3)

Hi guys, should a pressure control valve be installed just before the mains enters the house or should it include all outdoor taps too, so just after the municipal supply?

Here in cape town, usually there is one installed before each geyser.

That said, in Gauteng, for parent's property, I noticed it is installed as it enter the property. So after municipal supply, but before it goes to anything inside or even outside the house.

In Jhb depending on the age of the property ive seen it all.

Old mans house has it fitted just before the geyser, so hot water taps are regulated.
Mine is fitted before it enters the house, so all outdoor taps and toilets are unregulated.
Complex we stayed in had it fitted as it entered the property, so all indoor and outdoor taps were regulated. Watering the lawn was "fun"

I believe having it just before it enters the house is the best approach, I want all the water pressure for sprinklers/hosepipe. But have indoor taps all at the same pressure.

We have a main one after the muncipal one that regulates the house itself. Outside taps fed from the house covered via this too

However, sprinkler and main tap used for hosepipe is directly behind municipal feed and is awesome for that purpose and for me to knock the dirt of the solar panels on the roof without needing to climb on the roof itself

I do the same spray from the garden and clean the panels off

My water pressure at night, every night at 10pm almost like clockwork, goes down to 1.5bars. Don't even need a pressure valve when the tap drips like it had the prostate of a 75 year old

Can I ask a stupid question? Why didn't you use the opportunity to replace the window to a more modern one like aluminum, etc since all the brickwork around it is being redone in any case?
