let's say I have a piece of concrete slab, let's go with 1m x 80cm

now I want to remove just a little less than half of it, making it about a 70cm x 80cm

what would be best method to finish off the part where I now cut the slab and removed that excess?

taking note that it is a part that will quite often get water

Why cut the slab to begin with..? If it would be getting a lot of water, you end up with a mud pit and or soil erosion, neither of which is a great idea..

So that means you go one of three ways:

Paving - seems to defeat the purpose of removing the slab
Vegetation - plant some grass, throw some mulch, garden etc
Rocks - throw down some ground cover and decorative stones

it's a piece of slab that leads to paving

we had a little wall built next to it, but to build it with foundation, they had to cut into the slab

and ofc as all contractors do these days, they don't finish their work off, they expect you to know better

so now where the wall and the slab "meets", there is an ugly gap where now, water runs along the slab and sits in that gap

which seeps into the concrete on the other side of the wall

so I want to cut that piece of slab away, water proof that part of the wall at the bottom and then fill that with paving continuing the rest of the paving

the slab actually meets paving at the end currently, so will just fill that to combine

quickest solution would probably just be to fill the gap, but the 2 pieces of mismatching concrete will trigger me :D

My neighbor is taking huge chances building extra rooms.

Folks.. Here’s a curious tale regarding additional rooms being built at a guest house which borders the side of my property. I’d best not name the town in case the owner picks this up, except to say I’m in the Free State and approx 50km from Potch and 45km from Sasolburg.

In February this year I asked the guest house owner to cut down two small trees which are breaking open my wall. She said NO WAY..they are building extra rooms and these are needed for shade. Even though their position only provides a little shade just before sunset. Nothing was done.

Then a couple of weeks ago, builders suddenly arrived, dug foundations then the very next day poured the foundation, and the day after, started the brickwork.

I checked the distance from my boundary, its 1.3m, and I’ve not approved the deviation from 1.5m.

After that I started a conversation up with the owner, she tells me all is in order and the plans were approved in 1963..yes you read that correctly, its not a typo. She sees no problem with the plans and approval being sixty years old.

Now for the amusing part.

I’ve started asking her to cut down the tree’s damaging the wall , she tells me its a joint responsibility as its my wall. And should a bird sit on the wall and poop, and a tree grow against the wall from that poop, so I’m also responsible for removing the trees.. lol. I asked.. if a bird flies past and poops, and the poop just happens to land next to the wall, is this also my responsibility. And how can a person determine how the seed was planted. Obviously she’s got no answer there.

Next, I queried about storm water drainage from her plot to mine. I was told each drain is blocked on her side, and according to her municipal contact, I’m responsible for ensuring her side is clear. She sent me photos of the drains from her side. They’ve put paving or stones against the drainage panels. And blew a gasket when I asked to come round to dig up the paving and stones. It seems her hubby will be attending to this.

The last thing is something I can’t wait to see how its resolved. The back of these rooms is less than 1.5m from their neighbours boundary, and sewage pipes must run down the gap. SANS 10400 says they must be at least 1.5m from the foundations. Except there isn’t enough room.. As they say, **** happens.

Started building kitchen for flatlet, mdf frame with fake shaker doors, top will be kiaat.
First time using pocket hole jig and it works quite well and it is quite fast.
Also surprised how good is dust extraction.
Used few tools from Temu!!!
Managed to do 2 boxes and 4 drawers.

why MDF.... why why why... :(:(:(:(:(
you're gonna need to seal that really really really really well... and then seal it again... and one more time to be doubly sure.

1) if you pop into the council, ask to look at the microfilm for her plans (they don't care who the owner is) you can even print out the plans. I've done this for a property I was buying, and I printed out a 1 bedroom house! I was buying a 5 bedroom house... yup you can imagine my gasket and o-ring blew! Those plans will show how close to the boundary and and and and..

Anyway that's option one.

2) Option two is you can go to mydeedsearch and buy the Surveyor General Diagram (mine was R79 about 10 years ago) this will show the exact dimensions of the property and any servitudes on the land.

3) If no new plans are with the town council, then go and complain to them that your neighbour is building a new building right on your boundary wall with no plans (you can show them the plans you have!) they should and normally will come right out to the property and put a stop to it immediately

Cost mainly, I'll do double sanding sealant, then primer and 2-3 coats of enamel paint.
It is for flatlet kitchen and carcases are on top of 70mm frame so hopefully it will survive.

Vr… or Pa… ?
Everybody in the latter claims all plans were “lost in a fire”

It's alot of work which will cost more. Just plain white melamine cut and edged is a winner, it'll last decades. The doors is where to spend a little extra...

I recently thought of buying a second hand fortuner 4*4, but its an exact fit in my garage. I asked the dealer to bring the car over to see if it fits in my garage. I cant even open the boot once the garage door is closed. Its a small garage that fits two cars side by side. I have a pedestrian gate that opens into my lawn.
I want to widen the pedestrian gate and put a sliding gate, pave the lawn and put a shade port. Question is do I need approval for doing this ? I am in COCT

Yes.

For the shade port.

Also, you adding a new entry for a car. Or is there no need for a change for the curbside of the road to be changed?

I am surprised we need approval for a shade position because it's kind of a temp structure.

The curb right now is for a pedestrian. I don't know how to describe it but it kind of slopes down and up infront of it. I am guessing this slope will have to be extended a bit to accommodate for a car entering.

CoCT is very specific. Any structure of any kind, if it is 3m2 or larger you need plans. Car port, shade port, is gonna be at least 5x3m.

I installed a 30m zipline for the kids at the holiday home. Planted poles on one end and the other end is mounted to the shaded carport corner pole.

Who would have thought I would have to use Trigonometry ever after high school?
Fried my brain, so I just used an online tool to calculate the height of the 2 anchor points and the slope.

I need to sand some doors and windows so I need a sander.
Is this one good enough?
I like that it is square so it will be better with corners.

Has anyone enclosed a carport?
Looking for some ideas on this (four post carport with zinc roof)

looks like it should work well for that purpose
