Good to hear just shuffled up a few dates our side so that we can let the concrete set a bit longer, means we are without a kitchen for a month or so :p oh well worth it in the end.

Tip: Remember to tune the contractor if there are any off-cuts he must cut them to your preferred size and finish the edges. Stick some rubber "feet" on the bottom in each corner and you have yourself a nice "cutting board" or pot stand.

Those cutting boards are for amateur cooks. Nothing that dulls a knife as quickly as that.
 
While waiting for SWAMBO to give me design of kitchen for granny flat I need to do some prep work.
Only thing that I know is that it will be spray painted.
Usually I would make boxes from white melamine but because of spraying what would be appropriate material?
Should I stick with melamine or there is better option in similar price range?
 
Broke out the old back patio today. It is becoming part of the kitchen. Will remove the wall between dining room and kitchen in future, then the cabinets will be replaced.
Before that the partially enclosed ‘afdak’ in front of the kitchen needs to go

We finally at that stage of packing up the kitchen. Will officially be without a kitchen next week Tuesday for the nexr month or so. Man didn't realize renovations take this long. This is officially the biggest undertaking I have done to date!

Replaced a light switch today that I was looking to smart-ify, so glad I did as I found an absolute rats nest of poorly wired connections and an overcrowded wall box which had the neutral supply wire almost completely burnt through.

I chopped off a bunch of excess wire and rewired the box which isn't an easy task when you have 4 sets of twin and earth dropping into a tiny box. I wasn't able to get a Shelly relay in there but at least I feel better that it won't spontaneously combust now.

When I do my renovation all light switches are going to be in 4x4 boxes when it's more than a single gang.

What would have caused that? Lights generally don't pull enough current to melt insulation.
 
Meh, my stupid toilet started leaking water.

I thought it was coming out of the feeder pipe on the bottom (because it was wet), so I taped that up nice and good. I'm pretty impressed with the modern stretchy non-stick self-fusing tape, it's like magic how it sticks to itself.

But then it turned out its the tank that's overfilling and it's just leaking out of the stupid handle.

Is it a ball valve toilet?

If so just bend the rod holding the ball down a bit so it puts more pressure on the stop valve earlier.

Hah I tried that, but apparently they made the thing out of titanium. I didn't feel like removing it to get some tools in there, so in the end I just stuck an old plastic plug in on the side and extended the little clip a bit to push the ball further down.

If it was fine previously, the rubber washer on the inlet valve is leaking. That is why the cistern is over-filling...
