The Home Improvements Thread (3)

Alright.. with a more iterations, I might come end up with something useful.. this was a first run, asking only to move the toilet, add the shower and brick up the window and nothing else..

What is there at the moment:

What ChatGPT provided me:

I am not sure what it did with the bath, but like I said, I didn't ask it to do anything else..
A different take: swap the bath and the toilet, move the basin a bit closer to the door, then put the "open plan" shower directly next to the bath, in front of the window that ChatGPT built.

Note that you need to use the South African version of ChatGPT, so that it doesn't do away with the burglar bars

Nope.. toilet only works (in a practical and budget orientated sense) on the window wall, since the bath wall is not external facing..

The outlet pipe cannot feed between the wall and the bath?

It can, but it's not practical or budget orientated to do so.. besides that, you would also end up digging into the floor to get a fall, as the wall is 3m in length..

bro in the spirit of renovations I have fixed that for you
Lol, maybe 2 weeks was a bit over-eager but the builders are doing a great job. from nothing to now has only been 6 weeks.

Can we meet in the middle at 4 weeks left.

Edit: On the downside, i don't know what ai programs people are using for design ideas but GPT4.0 is of no use.

just upload your photo of your kitchen to ChatGPT (I've tried the wife, doesn't want to enhance her....) anyway once that is done in 1 min, then just write what you want, eg. make the kitchen cupboards black and a white countertop

the more it looks like a kitchen or whatever area you are going for the easier it will be, if its hectically cluttered it can struggle

post your pics
Ok so this is what the ChatGPT machine spit out.

Might be a very dumb question, so I apologize in advance.

Excluding appliance cost, do you guys think R100k to a company would cover a basic kitchen renovation (in my folks house +-R1.2m) with
- replaced floor and wall cabinets (existing is about 5m total length)
- new small 2m x 1m centre island with stools for 3
- replaced mixer+sink
- new wall tiling and floor vinyl (floor is wood underneath) - total area is probably 55 square meters
There is existing wiring for the stove, plumbing for the sink, power for the applicances, and their replacements would be in the same spots too.

Just wondering if it's possible in the year 2025, haven't looked at prices in yonks.
The original kitchen is easily 50 years+ so seriously dated (think light blue baked enamel metal cabinets with riveted door hinges that can't be easily removed for derusting and painting).

What are you gonna do with the old cabinets.

Need a 3/4" BSP female threaded to 25mm solvent weld.

Apparently PVC is toxic for use in water consumption hence I need uPVC unless you can prove me wrong.
Ignore I read wrong.

As far as i know uPVC does not come threaded, but i could be wrong. You will probably need a solvent weld to threaded adapter.

Do you want to put it underground?

Is this to replace a existing pipe or is this a new installation?
If existing pipe/s could you attach pictures or give description. I might be able to help better.
If there is a existing pipe/s that you want to replace or repair, why not get a adapter/s and use Poly Pipe like This. My municipality using them to go from their main line to the meters.

Please ignore above i read wrong.

Will do correct research and come back with a reply.

Hey everyone

Would anyone at all have a sense as to how much it would cost for a minor restoration. Basically just a sand down and seal. Leather seems to be ok to try clean and treat.

Picked this little guy up off Marketplace for a steal, most literal a little rough around the edges.

Jeez bru, not sure if exactly the same, but I recently gifted one of these back to my mother's side of the family. The one I had was my grandmother's grandmother's. Old AF. But still good.

It will cost a couple of hours, a sheet out 2 of fine sandpaper, 2 balls of steel wool and a 500ml litre tin of matt polyurethane varnish

You should have it done in a morning.
