The ICC T20 World Cup 2016 thread

Personally I would prefer to have De Kock open (whether it be with AB or Amla) . Amla is a great player , but if I have the choice I would open with De Kock as he is the more destructive batsmen , especially in the first 6 overs . I think the games in India will be decided by and large on what happens in those first 6 overs and we need to maximise our potential by batting our two most destructive batsmen which in my opinion are De Kock and AB .

It seems though that there is talk that De Kock may be used lower down , but I honestly think this would be a waste of his potential , just as it would be a waste of AB's potential . So it will be very interesting to see which way they go especially since in essence we are going with 3 openers to the World Cup as it seems set that AB will open .

The flip side is should De Kock open where does Amla bat or does he play at all ? A tough decision and a tough call to make , but I think whatever they plan on doing they should do it and make it clear from the start of the Aussie tour . Whilst I don't agree with it my gut is telling me that the selectors and coach will be opting for Amla and AB with De Kock sitting out at the World Cup ,which would be a waste especially since De Kock has a very good habit of scoring good runs over in India .

As for the other batsmen , Miller and RR need to start making some meaningful contributions along with JP as we have been relying fairly heavily on AB , Amla and De Kock for a while now .
 
We should play all 3 in the top 3. It would be a big mistake to leave Amla out. With AB opening with De Kock you're going to be 10/2 or 100/0.

AB and De Kock are similar to some extent. Makes sense for Amla to open with one, and the other to come in at three, so if there is an early wicket, you have a "backup".
 
They are our 3 best batsmen , but I would still keep young De Kock at the top to open , it allows him to play with freedom which is what you want as it brings out the best in him .

Based on the squad selected and that Amla would need to bat in the top 3 this would be my choice for most games (conditions depending) :

1)De Kock
2)Amla /AB
3)AB/Amla
4)RR
5)Faf (Not my first choice , but as he is captain)
6)Miller/JP
7)Wiese
8)Morris
9)Rabada
10)Abbot/Steyn (though I am not too sure just how match fit Steyn would be after the long lay off)
11)Tahir

Whilst the squad was pretty predictable I suppose , I cant help but feel that there are some players lucky to be there . I would have liked to see some other players being tried earlier on and tested like a JJ Smuts (Warriors) for example . I also think Albie would have been useful over in India .
 
Given yesterdays good performance by Amla I would still not choose him to open.
1. Faf Du Plessis - he has proven himself in the top order in the IPL with great performances. Also averages just under 40 in the top 3
2. Q De Kock - explosive player which is needed in the top order
3. AB De Villiers - has to be in the Top 3. We have under utilized him in all formats
4. JP Duminy - a seasoned T20 player. Also IPL knowledge would be a major boost
5. D Miller - a destructive batsmen when its in the arc
6. R Roussouw - has huge potential and should be a mainstay in the ODI and T20 squads
7. D Wiese - Need a big hitting player lower down the order. In all honesty would rather have Albie in the squad and at no 7
8. C Morris - Need good alround performances from him with a couple of good camio's
9. K Rabada - no way he can be left out of any squad at this stage
10. Abbot/Steyn - Steyn depending on his fitness if he would play. If Steyn and Rabada is going it would be great to watch.
11. Tahir - I think there's no argument here

Between JP, Rilee and Miller they would come in depending on the situation of the game.

I believe the rational of having Amla in the squad to "bat" through is not relevant in T20. We have enough players that can play that role if need be.
Also, I have seen many instances where Amla has gotten frustrated on top for not hitting the boundaries in the first few overs where it is needed.

I do think we lacking another quality spinner. I would have chosen Eddie Leie over Phangiso and Leie would get a game with Tahir especially in the Indian conditions. Possibly having to drop either Wiese or Morris depending on there performances in the next couple of T20 against Australia. But with no other quality spinner both of them would need to play

Good team. I think we have a real shot here.
Wiese/Morris not the best bowlers in the world. Would still have preferred Parnell, But Morris has saved our butts twice now, and Wiese is potentially the biggest hitter in the team.

Parnel doesn't score runs when he comes in lower down the order. All his good innings has come at the top of the innings, he ain't getting in ahead of ab,amla,qdk,faf,ect. As number 7/8 wiese & morris are a lot better. As for the bowling depends which parnel shows up he is very hot and cold.

Really not sure about Miller being in the starting line up. He has not done anything to speak of recently IMO. Explosive yes, but far too inconsistent. I would rather have a consistent Behardien at six. Not gonna set the world alight but has done a better job than Miller scoring wise, at a decent rate too. And when you add his bowling, he becomes an option to chip in with an over or two if either Wiese or Morris are being taken for a lot of runs.

If he does not contribute in the first couple of games, he should be dropped

Strikerate of 128 vs behardien's 115 in international t20. IPL record unquestionable, tournament is taking place in india. Miller plays in my book. Have enough safe players in amla,faf and jp don't need another in farhaan.

In the last 12 months, Behardien has scored only 2 (83 @ SR 118) runs less than Miller (85 @ SR 119), from a whopping 4 less games. Like i said, for the World T20, I would pick consistency

For me it is not so much that we don't have the players on paper to win an ICC event . For me it is that we don't seem to go into the games with the right strategy or team selection at times . The T20 games by nature are fast and a game can be won or lost in a single over so ensuring that we fully utilise those first 6 overs is crucial when batting and likewise making sure we take all our catches .

There are going to have to be some tough decisions made on the opening pair for example and Dale Steyn (depending on how he shapes against the Aussies) . I honestly feel though we need to be going all out with our explosive batsmen upfront rather than to wait for a late burst towards the end . So open with AB and De Kock and then go from there , if a quick wicket falls then there is always Amla who can come in at no 3 and build , but the potential of AB and De Kock firing together is a scary thought especially for the opposition .

I rather pick the match winner. Have enough consistent players. You need match winners. If we need 10 per over from the last 5 in a semi I know who I am backing and its farhaan.

He could always replace jp if duminy doesn't get his act together thought.
