The iOS 11 Thread/Discussion

I'm sure this question was asked weeks ago, it's been fine since about dev 6. I had even thought dev 8 might have been GM.

Dev 6 was nowhere near as smooth as iOS 10. Your eyes clearly do not pick up frame skipping or lag, or you're on an older device and you're used to the lag.

Anyone on a 7 plus that can comment on the smoothness? Especially app switching and opening and closing of apps.

Nvm, a quick look at the iOS 11 mac rumors thread confirms it's still laggy as hell. Didn't expect anything else.

Smooth as heck on my 7+. The only hassle I have is the occasional lag when I switch the display off and then on in quick fashion.

So you're not experiencing animation lag?

Guess I'll just have to install it and see for myself. Hardly doubt the animation lag is gone as a lot of people complain about it. But it's nothing new. It's always one step forward and 2 steps back with iOS since iOS 8. The plus devices have been riddled with frame skipping and stutter for a very very long time. It was finally fixed in 10.2. Some people do not notice the lag/stutter. So it's actually pointless asking other people about it.

10.3.3 is very smooth and hardly any bugs. It's the best version for the 7 plus thus far, in my experience. So next year this time we'll have a smooth iOS 11, just before the launch of iOS 12.
Apologies for my rant, but I used to enjoy the smoothness iOS had to offer. This was pretty much the only thing that kept me from switching to android.

These 2 comments sum it up perfectly

I agree though - I moved from Android to iOS for the smooth experience. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment - I have to be on the latest version.

Nobody’s forcing you to do anything, should you wish, you can be an idiot with an uppity attitude as much as you want, when you want. Totally up to you.

And before you have another period outburst, maybe you should have just asked, I’m using an iPhone model A1784, go look it up...

Also, for the record, we were discussing usability, which has been fine since b6, but there is nothing wrong with b10 relating to lag, which seeing as it’s the same build as iOS 11 GM means it’s not really a surprise.

The iOS 11 GM that was leaked is the same as Dev Beta 10.

No it's not. The GM has extra wallpapers, as well as the names of the new iPhones (X, 8, 8 Plus) and colours of the new Apple Watch in it (blush gold, ceramic grey)

No, it’s feeling quite snappy, I think on both the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 it’s an improvement.

Well, I remembered you were using a 6, view above.

Nothing arrogant about my post. It's a fact that the plus devices have had major stuttering since they launched. This is due how they render things. Compare your plus to a non plus side by side. The smoothness is simply not what it used to be.

But you clearly don't notice the stuttering or lag. Some people don't. I do and it's a deal breaker for me, considering these devices are sold with a premium price tag.

I suspect iOS11 GM will only officially be let loose on Tuesday after the keynote because of all the things it reveals, wasn't suppose to leak, oops.

So out of boredom I installed iOS11 for the first time on my daily 6s yesterday. I have to stay it's damn near perfect. I had a few studders after the install. I'm guessing after all the background processes settled down, she's now sailing like butter.

I find that after (or before even) any major OS upgrade it's best to crash all apps and open them fresh.

I have a feeling some residual stuff still talks to the old system which is why it's unstable at first.

Yes, I have a 6 as well which is my usual beta vehicle. The 7+ ended up on iOS 11 after I had the phone replaced and discovered I didn’t have a recent backup on 10...

PS

I also have more than one iPad so don’t get confused if I mention a different iPad at some stage as well.

Yep, it’s working very well.

I went ahead now and installed the latest beta. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. Some lag here and there. I hope they speed up the delay when it comes to opening and closing apps. Other than that it doesn’t feel to bad.

On what phone? Because I can't imagine there being more polishing from now until release time.

7 Plus. I hope there is more polishing, else I’m downgrading. The stuttering is there and anyone that doesn’t see or feel it is blind.

This is one thing most people forget to do, in sted they start to bitch right away on how slow and crap a new OS is, so well done for giving it some time to settle.

Often it's the same with a new Mac or a fresh Mac OS install, people complain right away that the Mac is slow and laggy, or not as expected, meanwhile there's a lot going on in the backround, index building, iCloud downloading etc etc, just give it a couple hours to settle, even leave it on over night to do its thing.

Or perhaps those who think they’re seeing it are over-imaginative and seeing things that don’t really exist or are nitpicking?

Oh please. Compare your plus to a Plus running 10.3 and come back and share your findings. Don’t be a troll
