The iOS 11 Thread/Discussion

iPad Mini 2 updated. New dock seems rather smart. Damn I need a Air 2 or higher to the full multitasking.

Not a fan of the App Store, initially at least.

I’m feeling like an idiot now, I thought I’d restore and run the full .ipsw on my 7+ thinking what a good idea it would be to remove all vestiges of the beta.

Went fine, until I ran the backup and suddenly remembered I have to re-pair my Watch, set up ApplePay again (6 cards) and now hunt for my custom ringtones and notification tones in long forgotten folders as iTunes doesn’t have a tab for them anymore

I’ll keep telling myself maybe it’s actually going to be beneficial in the long run...

Running it on my 12.9" now. Liking the changes - Files.app is going to be quite a game-changer in how I use it now. Busy installing on the 6S... So far, so good!

Flucks sake, all my banking apps need authorising again as well (yes, I did actually know it would happen, my brain just hid the facts from me :p).

Unless you want a clean full install...

It’s not a PC. So there is no such thing.

Now you are the one who is seeing stuff that doesn’t exist.

Not even OSX needs a clean install. Believe me I ran the same install for 10 years across multiple upgrades.

So explain why it’s the suggested route to resolve “other” when it gets too large? It’s generally accepted that “other” is basically debris and orphan files from app installs, caches etc.

For example

The "other" contains the iOS and app data. If it's much beyond 1 GB (usually less), it's filled with corrupted data or metadata errors.

The only way to get rid of the excess "other" is to restore the phone, first using a backup, and if needed as a new phone, without using a backup.

All of which will clear itself out in time.

Just like Temporary Files on other operating systems.

Only reason to do it manually is if you absolutely must have it cleaned in the here and now.

I take a **** lot of screenshots for *ahem* the Motoring section. This new screenshot tool is bloody brilliant! So far so good. Digging the new animations as well.

Many US sites that say "Smart Invert" is almost as good as a Night Mode can jump off a bridge. It's not even close!

i've been using the Beta on my iPad from Beta 2. It works well and my iPad has become my workhorse for most of my work (still have a laptop though for the heavy stuff). Drag and drop is my favourite feature. Second is Files.

Just installed iOS 11 on my iPhone 7. It is eating up a bit of my battery, but it is expected as it is running some background functions. Not sure if I like the new animations though.
