The iOS 13 Thread/Discussion

I have Apple Care+ on my 11 Pro and Watch 5 cellular. Costs about $13 a month and makes damage replacements cheap.

Yeah that’s a bit different.

We obviously don’t have those benefits here and doing it through insurance hurts you in the longer term.

Also I could argue that the expense of $13 a month makes the Rhinoshield actually look pretty cheap over the lifetime of the phone and no need to ever take it in for repairs and be without for a few days.

Brave man.

I cannot do that, I can be 100% careful and then comes the one day I take my eye off the ball (e.g. while out having drinks or just a very busy day) I can have the phone falling down a flight of stairs or dropping it face first while getting out the car, I have done both a few times since getting my XS Max, but luckily I have it protected. Had to replace the Tempered Glass screen protector a week after putting it on

Also the funny part is that once it’s covered it falls less because it’s less slippery.

The naked phones seem to slip off flat surfaces all by themselves with no intervention and especially out of pockets when sat down.

Nice thing about the Rhinoshield is that it being just a bumper case you still get to see the entire phone.

I will never put a stupid cover on any of my phones ever.. I don't buy a phone to have a visual of it.. I buy it to use it as is... I also don't intend to keep it as an investment.. to sell it or give it to someone looking brand new...

Anyone having battery drainage on their IPads running IOS 13.1? Mine is dying 20-30% quicker than normal.

Check zollotech youtube.. he spoke about this.. I didn't finish the vid on how to address it...

I buy a phone to use it.

Hence the cover so I don’t need to worry about it all the time.

It’s got nothing to do with investment or the next owner, I’ve never sold any of my phones.

Protection enables use.

Why worry about breaking if you have insurance?

Why worry about breaking if you have insurance?

Insurance goes up and costs more money.

And if my company didn’t pay for the insurance I wouldn’t have it at all and just the cover.

Also means being without a device for extended periods. This never happens to me with a cover on.

But to each their own.

That is exactly the attitude that a lot of burglars have.

They think our stuff just gets replaced for free, which gives them the right to take it.

Just updated my iPhone SE.

Must admit am pleasantly surprised. CarPlay suddenly actually works now! Whereas before it was close to unworkable.

I like that dark mode - have all my machines on dark mode already, so it's nice to have that on my phone as well.

Not sure about burglars attitude really!

Just some feedback after living with the phone for a few days after installing IOS 13.

CarPlay is much better, but it's still not perfect - it's definitely not in the "it just works" category, which one expects from Apple systems.

I find that if my phone has poor connectivity to the internet (I think that is the cause), when I connect the phone to my car, then I have lots of hassles. In those cases CarPlay simply will not activate or start. Or the CarPlay connection is established, but then immediately freezes - in the worst case, it completely crashed my car infotainment system to the point that I had to switch the car off, to get it to reset.

I never had that problem before - plugging the cable in always resulted in CarPlay activating and connecting to the head unit. Now with the new IOS, that has become iffy, most of the time it works. But in some cases I can struggle all the way to the office, trying to convince the damn thing to connect.

But once it connects and gets itself sorted, then it's much more stable than before. So it is an overall improvement, but it's still quite poor from the point of view of being something you can just rely upon to work every time.

I think Apple made some pretty stupid design decisions when they designed CarPlay. I suspect they assumed that an Internet connection would always be available and would work flawlessly, so that they could establish all sorts of cloud connections, and if those connections are not available, or drop, then the whole thing becomes unstable. It seems that they have relaxed the requirement for the internet to always be available, but now need to make a lot more connections (or something like that) when CarPlay first becomes active, as you plug the phone into the car? Something like that?

But whatever it is, those assumptions do not map to what happens in the real world. So we have a product that sort of works, and when it does is quite neat, but also drives one to drink in its unreliable behaviour!

How is that connected to iOS 13?

You'd probably get a better response by finding an on topic thread or starting a new one, not dumping your question in a thread at random...

If you’d paid a little more attention you’d see that I had pre-order pending. But be that as it may sir I will spam another thread just because you took issue with it.

I don't see anything about a preorder in your post. You'd still be better off finding a Vodacom thread to post in or starting a new thread to get an answer.

;)

Maybe worth checking with the car manufacturer if there is an update because most of this sounds like a problem with the car’s unit more so than the phone.

I’ve noticed no issue at all with CarPlay making the switch from 12 to 13.

If anything the odd problems I got on 12 are now gone.

For some reason I decided to go and check if there is a software update out just now, seeing as the Apple AirPods Pro have been announced, and BOOM, iOS 13.2 is out:
