I don't think flagships Androids have the same status. The people that buy flagship Androids aren't really interested in the price, but more the technology\

Some of that is definitely true. Just look at all the celebs, they may even carry other makes on tv or other media but use iPhone as their personal phones.

I used an iPhone for 8 years. Been using a cheaper Android for a year now (chose to rather get carbon wheels and a power meter for my bike (yes, that's how expensive it is)). And, I have not missed the Apple once. Feature for feature, there is no real difference. The only difference is the speed at which my apps launch from a hardware perspective. Am I saying that is what all other customers believe, or have experienced? Not at all.

Plus, I don't have to pay exorbitant insurance costs on my phone, because it's super cheap to replace. Win win.

Edit: I am actually quite confident that Apple's market share in SA is going to drop a bit in the next year. The high cost, with increasing RoE is putting it out of the reach of many.

I used both iPhone 6S & Huawei P8 for 3 years. Zero comparison between the two. Huawei is a POS, as is the OS. Still waiting for ANY update on the OS from Huawei - it's now 3 and a half years down the line.....
P8 froze at least once a day & needed to be rebooted. Only upside is that there is a reboot option on the phone. Strange that, almost like Huawei know it needs to be rebooted so often they made it an option!
The 6S only ever gets rebooted/restarted when there is an iOS update.

iPhone just simply works. Makes loads of things easier like automatically BCC to myself on any emails I send. Plus plus plus.
I do agree that iPhones are expensive. I also have come to realise that in some instances you DO get what you pay for.
I chucked the P8 to Waze only duty in the car & bought another iPhone, so currently have 2. Love the simplicity & functionality.
Of course YMMV. That's whay there's a multitude of phones on the market.

While I'm glad that you found the platform that works best for you, it's simply inaccurate to claim that Android lacks simplicity or functionality, or is even lacking in general compared to iPhone. Android is a fundamentally different product to iOS, and if you want the sort of snappy and bloat-free experience most users prefer then you should research the right products to buy. Samsung and Huawei do not represent the best software experience Android has to offer, so finding those experiences unsatisfying is not to say that all other Android experiences would be too.

I would never trade my OnePlus 6 in for an iPhone. Responsiveness is lightning fast, battery life is godlike, there's no bloatware, the camera is awesome, it has a modern design, solid build quality, excellent display etc. for nearly half the price of an iPhone X. It's possible (if not likely) you would not have had those grievances with a phone like the OP6.

Lucky things changed a lot for both phones from 2015!

I think the iPhone can now download more than 20MB and Facetime over 3G/LTE, right? On the Huawei side they've shown tremendous growth and are now the 2nd largest manufacturer. They've won EISA Smartphone of the Year and developed the best camera in a smartphone. Local customer care is unrivaled and I'm getting frequent updates /security patches.

iPhone just simply works

It's true ... but they never really have anything cutting edge in their phones and only really adopt when the technology is mature. The pros are, as you say, it's pretty damn stable ... but the negative is always having last years technology. Works for some - my folks have no issue with having an 'old' new iPhone.

Love the simplicity & functionality

Again, it's simple because they're using older, tried and tested technology. It works for some ... and it's great it works for you! This could also explain their healthy margins - technology decreases substantially as it get's older.

Does it have the best camera? No
Does it have the best battery? No
Does it have the latest tech? No
Is it the fastest phone? No

But it works - and that's what important !

Actually there isn't. My Polo is just a fraction of a millisecond slower than your Porsche, to the untrained eye looks exactly the same as yours and you'll struggle to find major differnces in features, comforts and safety.

Increase from iPhone to iPhone 3G, then a constant price for three generations to the iPhone 4. Price increase for the 4S and then a constant price for six generations up to the 7. Finally a $50,00 jump to the 8...

Integration into your Apple TV and Watch? I use a smart watch and TV too, and never have any issues with integration. Most IoT devices already seamlessly integrate with my phone with no issues through an API, which is exactly what Apple does.

I have no doubt that this is so for you.

My personal experience has been that the price difference to achieve parity with the quality of the product and quality of integration ( and to be honest I never managed to get this level of ease of interoperability in the Android world) is negligible.

One of key differentiators for me as well is the speed of patching as well - unless you have a Pixel (availability in SA, price comparable) you just don't get the security updates quickly. It's one of the reasons I switched - it frustrated me no end knowing that there were Android updates and I couldn't get them without futzing around.

I'm quite eclectic in my tech use though - apple, Linux, Windows roku, atv, Android (amongst others) all have a place in my personal landscape.
