Still don't get the concept of how they use the SIM to unlock the phone.

We were passing through from Parktown going home
 
You can run a script via type C to reset the phone completely at the local Pakistani cell shop.

And the passcode was compromised…not the phone.

6-digits simply isn’t good enough. In fact stop using passcodes all together and switch to a password.

They added the WhatsApp to another device so that when you locked the main one you still had access, you would need to go revoke that manually yourself.

No they can’t and the SIM pin has absolutely nothing to do with the phone whatsoever.

They can potentially wipe and reset the phone, but they cannot bypass the existing PIN code and gain access.

How is it Apple’s fault if you had a shitty PIN code and they compromised that?

There is nothing wrong with Apple security other than users wanting convenience and options for less of it.

They factory reset the phone, used his number to get account names ( iCloud and Whatsapp), then reset the names and passwords.

They don’t.

But they could use the SIM to get directly into other stuff like WhatsApp on a different device.

It sounds like your iPhone wasn’t compromised at all going by all the details you offered.

WhatsApp was compromised by using the SIM on a different device.

It doesn’t work like that. You can’t reverse engineer an iCloud account from a number.

I don’t think the iPhone was compromised at all.

Go read carefully, unless he missed some details the only compromise here was WhatsApp which you can easily do by transferring the SIM to another device he already admitted it has no pin on.

Sure, but follow the series of events and note that nowhere is anything Apple actually compromised.

Everything is in WhatsApp which is wide open without a SIM pin or using an eSIM locked behind the phone itself. They didn’t need to even reset anything and all the contacts are self-contained in there as well.

Everyone jumped to massive conclusions here, but nowhere does it seem the device itself was compromised.
 
i mean just google "can a stole iphone be unlocked"

it cant in short... can be wiped and code cleared. but then they wouldnt have access to any of your data or icloud

These guys WhatsApped the recent people I talked with. They didn't spam contacts. And maybe I'm ignorant but my mumbers were not on the SIM (the SIM is 3 months old), they sent messages on business WhatsApp (a number I lost) as well. The phone was compromised and NOT the sim.

Also they WhatsApped contacts that didn't WhatsApp back during that window (for them to have their numbers).

You think everything exists in Google? Will Google tell you about the high clearance stuff?
 
Sorry that happened.

Be prepared for yourself and others to get spammed with fake iCloud found device emails and SMS trying to get your iCloud account details.
You can report the domains to the hosts and they get rid of them pretty quickly.
After erasing your phone do not remove it from your iCloud account. If you do then they can use it as a new device.

Sounds like they may have used the SIM in another phone to get into whatsapp then used whatsapp web to view everything.

EDIT: Do your notifications on your phone only display their content if faceid picks up your face?

Explain how they got into my business WhatsApp with a number I don't even own.

No people in that WhatsApp sent money.

They asked money from this client for instance. I just miss the text where they were asking for money and he said he doesn't have it.

Initially I didn't wanna believe that they could've somehow opened the iPhone and this was my theory and everyone's theory. Until I viewed web WhatsApp and they were asking for money from every recent contact I talked with (including a few on my WhatsApp business) . As explained earlier my SIM is relatively new and I haven't really "saved" any numbers, as mostly they're on Google or icloud.

When you insert the sim into a new phone. You'd get a blank WhatsApp and THEN only wait for people to text. Which was not the case.

Had I known they would somehow get hold of my contacts I would've definitely rushed home to somehow warn my contacts from my MacBook.
