Okay so I did the update and the Jailbreak. I unplugged my phone from the charger at 05h55 it is now 07h42 & I have lost less than 5% of my battery life normaly it would have been more like 50%. So the advice given on that Apple furum actuall worked

Good luck to the rest of you with poor battery life. :P

To be honest I'm not experiencing major battery drainage, even after I restored my backup.

Will wait for 3.1 then I'll do a SSH backup

Guys - I installed marcf's ipcc's but disabled MMS (I wanted tethering) and use Swirly as I had it before - I have not installed any push apps and have not had any battery problems so I think that is where the problem lies - I also used Sygic yesterday for about 20 min to get home - was basically a test and it had no effect on the battery. My conclusion is that it is the push apps. I also have Winterboard and SBSettings installed - no performance issues either.

Hey guys,

Does anyone have some experiences to share about fixing an iphone that's not under warranty? I.e. a 2g that you bought overseas and then something happened to it when you were here?

I bought my 3g cash when it was released last year.

However, I'm getting a contract upgrade later this month and I don't know what I should do.

I'm very happy with my iphone but I'm not sure it will last me another two years... And its out of warranty in a few months...

So I don't know if I should stick with my iphone and take vouchers instead of a phone when upgrading (but vodascum rips you off so badly) or actually get a Nokia 5800/Blackberry 8900/ SE Xperia

What do you guys think?

Also installed marcf's ipcc, and with MMS still enabled I havent had any change in battery life

The indicator is on about 50% and I last charged my phone Wednesday night

But my phone isnt jail broken and I dont have any push apps either

Has not worked for me, my battery life is not 4 hours but around 24 hours which is weird because before 3.0 my phone would last a few days.

I'd wait for the 3Gs to release, then upgrade the contract when it does, if you don't want the 3Gs, I'll buy it from you :)

/blush/ The reason my phones battery does not last long is because I use it NON STOP /blush/

Hence the 4 hour battery life :p

for those still considering beejive and IM+, here's a messaging app with push support that's FREE:

eBuddy:
http://appstore.appadvice.com/link/320087242

doesn't support skype or twitter DM's though...

I remember using the java version of eBuddy on my older phones - was pretty good in those days ;)
Had a look at their reviews, currently they only allowing you to stay logged in for 30 mins after you close the app :(
Still a nice alternative if you really really can't afford the $9.99 for BeeJive or IM+

Hi All,

Havent been on here in ages, so if you can just point me to the page I should go to pls. I have upgraded to FW3. All fine. How on earth do you get to MMS???

You need to go to Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network
Scroll down to MMS.

Now enter your network's settings. Assuming you're using Vodacom, enter this -
APN: mms.vodacom.net
MMSC: mmsc.vodacom4me.co.za
MMS Proxy: 196.006.128.013:8080
You can leave the other fields blank.

You should now turn your phone off and on for the settings to stick. There should now be a camera next to the text box in your messages :D

There has been a lot of "challenges" regarding the MMS though. On Vodacom it seems to only work over GPRS and not over 3G. Hopefully this will be sorted by the time Vodacom "officially" starts supporting MMS with the next firmware upgrade. MTN seems to be fine though.
Test it out and let us know...

Well after a couple of resets strangely enough it seems my phone is a little faster and more responsive on OS3 - Not sure how a few resets fixed it but it’s definitely not the donkey I was using last week. :)
