So my phone is now in recovery mode because I was trying to update my firmware which failed. I am trying to use the above but "2) Start iRecovery in Terminal / Console with iRecovery -s" doesnt work.. I paste "iRecovery -s" into cmd and it doesnt accept it :(

Anyone know how to take out of recovery?

Here's exactly why I warned against USA iPhones

there an old version of quickpwn, 2.5.2 I think, that can reboot the phone out of recovery mode

you'd better not have gone to v3.1 software

the guy who jailbroke your phone never used cydia to get your shah blobs on file, so you cannot downgrade to 3.0.x

you now have an iPod touch untill pwnage tool for 3Gs on 3.1 is released, sorry...

Another thing

you NEVER have to put the phone into recovery mode yourself, iTunes does it for you before it performs any kind of restore

let me know if you can't find which version of quickpwn releases the phone from recovery mode, can mail you the install

just drop me a mail at [email protected]

I just bought biteSMS, was sick and tired for the "you are using a pirated version" screen that pops up in the cracked 4.2 version!

You should try tlert from rockyourphone, unfortunately it does not work 100% with apps like irealsms and bitesms. But works with your default sms app.

When you receive an sms, only a small message bubble pops up with the message and the contacts photo, when you want to reply, just tap on the message bubble, and a "reply bubble" opens up, want to call the contacts, just tap an hold the message bubble for 1-2 secs.

The reason I love it, is that it does not steal the focus on the screen, if you are busy sending an email and you get an sms, you don't first need to close the sms pop to continue on the mail, you can still work on the mail while the message bubble notifies you of the sms

Agreed - I had an offer from a friend to get me a 'cheap' 3G from the USA when they came out. I am glad I hung in there and got a SA phone.

@PCstoGo - Theron and Fxit should be able to sort out your problem though.

So i used TomTom today. Besides draining my battery, it wasnt to bad! It got a bit confused in the beginning, but then sorted itself out. Am going to try Navigon too!

LOL, I had the opportunity of using TomTom on the iPhone yesterday but rather used my Garmin :o . I have no reasonable place to mount the iPhone. The Garmin I stick into the cup holder of my car and it works fine there (the suction mount is in my other car and I'm not paying R200+ for another one)

Would love to know what your thoughts are on Navigon.

this is how I did it before if I can remember correctly:

1) connect phone to pc and quit iTunes
2) hold home and power button for 10 seconds
3) let go of home button and continue holding POWER button until it boots up normally

good luck

Were you jailbroken before? Only works if you were 'on file' with cydia BEFORE 3.1 was released

Hi ,

Yes, I am jailbroken on 3.0.1 and do have my 3.0 SHSH on file. I managed to sort out my issue with the camera (which I broke btw). I just did a backup restore from itunes (dated 10/09/2009) which sorted me out, hehe.

In the meantime if read a lot and it seems that my device should have been in DFU mode for the downgrade to work. But I didnt try it because my problem was resolved, :)

thanks guys... I have my iphone plugged in and itunes picks it up as in recovery mode but when I try run iRecovery in cmd it says:
"iRecovery - Recovery Utility
by wEsTbAer-- and Tim3q

Got USB
No iPhone/iPod found"

what does this mean? I have my phone plugged in!

Im not sure why this is, but have you looking on the hackintosh site? There was an explanation there on how to correct that.

Guys I need urgent help...

I just convince a friend to get an iPhone 3Gs (coming from a BlackBerry 9000)..

He is using a pop3 account to receive his emails. I've never used a pop accout with an iPhone so im clueless on it.

The problem is that the iPhone keeps on receiving emails that already have been downloaded. And once deleted from the inbox on the iPhone - they still arrive in the inbox on the iPhone after a new fetch!

What needs to be correct in the Settings??

It actually sounds like he has IMAP running what is the host name? I use POP3 and have not done anything special - all defaults.

I don't know who the host name is... Don't have his iPhone with me now, and he doesn't even know how to get into his settings! I'll play around with it when I see him later. How would I disable IMAP?

Ok, well i've now tried Sygic, TomTom and Navigon...

Sygic is cool, awesome maps (for an app not available in SA), highway signage and so on very visable. Very configurable, only problem, it does not really integrate with the iphone (can't use address from your contacts and so on)

TomTom is very very configurable, basically everything is configurable, but I found it not very accurate, the maps also did not look as impressive

Navigon, the maps look awesome, very very accurate, available for South Africa (big plus, especially with POI updates), the only grips I have with it, its not really configurable.

Did try iGo, but that thing, has so many apps that it has a conflict with, I just gave up after awhile

So I have to say, so far I prefer the Navigon, if only for the reason, that its available for South Africa (bit pricey), but would gladly pay it for the future updates and so on

I dont see a post by you on that page!

I followed it.. still nothing

EDIT: Thanks for trying guys but found a vid on Youtube that shows you how.. you have to use Quickpwn 22 to take it out of recovery mode!
Now to investigate back into the battery issue :(
