No guarantee but it could fix your speed problem. You can't remain on 3.0 for ever - just so you don't lose your 'hackulo' apps. If you SSH into your iPhone you can copy over all the .IPA files you have downloaded - assuming you used Installous to download them. The best approach is to download your .ipa's on your PC and then sync in iTunes.

Yes I have installous and SSH :p and will do what you said thanks

Okay I am sure some of you are going to RIP me another orifice :p but I have to ask.

I tether my iPhone 3G to my laptop and never get GREAT :D speeds.

Am I wrong in thinking that the Apple iPhone 3G is HSDPA compatible? My brother has a Samsung Omnia and live next door and get upwards of 2.5 mbps I on the other hand never get above 1.5 mbps.

----------------
Now playing: Ne-Yo - Part Of The List
via FoxyTunes

3G supports an older version of HSDPA, 3GS is the first iPhone with full hsdpa support

I use BeeJive with about 7 of my GoogleTalk friends. Haven't heard of this WhatsApp. Don't understand how it works... How would one 'add' a buddy? Just waiting for my gift card voucher to arrive in my inbox from MediaWob and I can then purchase it. Apple really need to introduce a BBM app for iPhones...

WhatsApp and Ping are basically iPhone versions of BB Messenger. I just prefer WhatsApp. Why do I prefer WhatsApp? Well, for one, in Ping if you delete a conversation it will remove the contact from your list and then to send them a msg you need to remember what there username is. In WhatsApp anyone in your regular iPhone contact list that has also registered with WhatsApp will appear in your list :D:D
If you loved BB Messenger then give them a try :D

So who has tested 3.1.2 yet?

>>>
Apple today released iPhone OS 3.1.2, addressing several issues regarding waking from sleep, network service disruption, and crashing during video streaming. iPhone users should connect their iPhones to iTunes and click the "Check for Update" button to obtain the new version.

This update contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:

- Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep
- Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming
The update is compatible with all iPhone models and weighs in at approximately 240 MB. Apple introduced iPhone OS 3.1 almost exactly one month ago, bringing a number of new features including Genius recommendation for applications, Genius Mixes for music and purchasing of pre-cut ringtones.

They only released this because Geohot is close :)

the VC network cant handle the high speeds though so really of no use

You'll be surprised. In general the Vodacom network can be quite cr*ppy. But at my house I have an AWESOME 3G tower - the most stable 3G tower I have ever used!!!! I never, and I mean NEVER get disconnected. If I download from iTunes late at night I download a meg in like 3 seconds (that's a 50Mb music video in like 2 and a half minutes!!)
This is when I use my E272 though (activated for 7.2 on the device and on my SIM). :D

hey man any luck with the white DFU mode?

im busy trying your FW now, and then once Geo has done his bit, i will try that too! But now with 3.1.2 coming out...i may wait for that. cos i have a few symptoms that this is meant to fix.

Will keep you posted on the progress. Gonna be using ih8sn0w

*EDIT*

Phone went into white DFU mode quite quickly. busy with the custom FW restore now!

Just incase anyone was super quick and went 3.1.2 already, which if you value your future unlock/JB is not a smart move .... devteam warning from
http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/207705127/3-1-2-and-you
3.1.2 and you?

WARNING! At 10.20AM PDT on October 8th 2009 Apple released the 3.1.2 version (7D11) of the iPhoneOS.

If you care about your jailbreak and unlock, don’t update your device - 3G and 3G(S) owners should pay particular attention to this warning.

* PwnageTool and redsn0w are not yet compatible with 3.1.2
* There is no estimated release time for compatible tools (please don’t bug us about this).
* Any information we have regarding this update will be posted here.
* You can also follow us on twitter - @iphone_dev

I have successfully JB my 3G with 3.1 that fxit uploaded for us. No issues what so ever. Took an entire 20 minutes :) :) :)

Good to hear :) Thanks man! So it wasn't my firmware! :D

@EchoZA: try ih8snow for white dfu mode.

Yea FW worked great!. Just remember that I was upgrade to 3.1 by iTunes first, then back down to 3.0, JB with redsn0w, then tonight I just put into white DFU mode and shift restore!

Thanks again fxit_man!!!
