Hi Guys,

I have just successfully jailbroken my phone and now has Cydia and the installer icons.

The two things I am wanting to do are have an mms functionality for this I'm told swirlymms is the best app.

The other functionality I am looking for is the ability to delete individual sms's, save messages onto my computer (for blackmail purposes :) j/k) and to be able to forward individual sms's.

I was recommended bite sms however I alrady have a sms bundle through my sp, so I am only looking for the functionality and not the cheaper sms options.

Also if anyone has some rudimentary instructions on how to install these apps now that the phone is jailbroken, I would appreciate any help.

Just call me noob.

Thanks
Melanie

Heya. Try BiteSMS.. You don't have to use their cheaper SMS option. You can still compose and send SMS's using your Network Provider. You can also forward and delete individual SMS's using that I think.

To backup/save SMS's, have you tried this ?

It allows you to save the first 100 SMS's for a contact Afaik, but give it a try.

P.s. Welcome :)

I have found that you can make ringtones out of your songs already in iTunes, alas, you can only use the first 30 seconds of the song...

It's a bit of a lengthy process to do it this way:

1. In iTunes, right-click the song you want, go to 'Get Info' and change the start and end points so it's 30 seconds in length.
2. Right-click the song again, 'convert selection to AAC'.
3. Find this new file or drag it from iTunes to your desktop.
4. Rename the file extension from .m4a to .m4r. (the space before the extension is important)
5. Import it back into iTunes and it will appear as a ringtone. Tada!

Hope this helps!

:o Mel

Good tip, yep that method has never given me any problems but I use garageband these days...

1. Import song to Garageband.(drag&drop)
2. Set the loop points(max 40 seconds) and add effects if you wish.
3. Share>Send ringtone to iTunes> Done.
;)

Thanks for the help everyone.

How do I install the apps to my phone? I have downloaded them on my pc or do I do it through the phone? The extensions to the files are unknown to me...

You said you have already jailbreaked right?

Simply open up Cydia and let it update (if this is your first time opening it)

And then hit the search button, and search for the app you want (in this case Bite SMS)

EDIT: To install apps from the AppStore, make sure you have an iTunes account (you can set up a free US one here. US ones have more free stuff :) ) and sign into the iTunes Store in iTunes

Then on the iTunes store, click App Store and download the apps you want. Then sync them to the phone. Alternatively, after you have created your iTunes account and signed into it in iTunes, simply sync the phone and fire up App Store on the phone. Then browse and install what you want from the phone itself via Wi-Fi

Everything is done using iTunes, but follow fxit's instructions for Jailbroken Apps.

Yes I have done the jailbreak and the phone is currently reorganising in cydia and has restarted...

It has now asked me to upgrade 4 essential packages which I am upgrading at the moment.

I do the search for bitesms and swirlymms through Cydia right? :o

Ok guys, I have installed bite sms, but it looks pretty much the same as the normal sms function.

How does it actually work to forward the individual sms's or deleting them?

Huh? I feel so stupid.

I know what jailbroken apps are, but I dont know how to install stuff through iTunes... :(

Just use the Appstore (fxit posted instructions). If you have downloaded cracked Apps just go File>Add to Library using iTunes and you can then sync to your iPhone but it must be patched for cracked Apps though.

Ok, I have figured out how to use bitesms, thank you so much guys!!!

Now, I have installed swirlymms and have changed the settings for my sp as per the settings on the first page of the post. It's not working though, it says I have either no 3G coverage (but I have checked, I do) or the APN settings are not correct.

Have the settings on the first page changed at all?

I can take a guess at what the next question will be :p

:o:o:o what can I say I am technologically challenged at the moment, so here goes the question and you can see if you are right...

How do you patch iTunes for cracked apps? :o

Ok Fixit, next technical question... I have installed bite, and then I tried "this" in order to save the sms's, but it seems to me that because I am using bite and not the normal app that I cant see the sms's in "this" so do I have to go and change my settings in order to save the sms's?

:confused::o

who is this Melanie Gee? I mean seriously, have you heard about this thing called google? all the craze nowadays, you type your really stupid questions there, and then you don't have to go around embarrassing yourself by asking them to actual people...
