windows xp??

start -> connect to -> right click the internet connection item -> properties -> sharing

check all 3 items, and select the wireless network

when you're done, check that your computer's ip address has been changed to 192.168.0.1
ffs! it worked for a second and stopped working as i exited safari!
my desktop's wifi adress is 192.168.0.1 but my iphone's is 169.254.229.253
and yes, using windows xp. i checked all 3 boxes but i dont have a window/option to select wifi

edit:
ran network connection wizard. seems to work again now and i selected wifi as my network connection through which my internet should be shared but it seems to keep resetting it to only use the LAN for internet sharing. ugh. fscking windows!

Shot! this worked...
I had it working a while ago but had to format my computer and I couldn't remember what I did to get it to work..
Is there a way in which I can force my iPhone to keep using the exact same wifi IP?

on iphone:

settings -> wifi -> select your network -> at the bottom, set IP to manual, type in 192.168.0.<whatever>

it remembers the ip settings per wifi SSID, so won't affect your other networks on the iphone

I was all excited, downloaded it, went to install it and now it says "cannot install this software on this computer, contact the developer for a newer version"

Will have to go shop after all... :D

Strange, what OS ver you running - the specs say any ver of 10.x is fine.

do you mean:
settings -> wifi -> select your network -> static -> enter desired IP?
(still doesnt work btw, even after resetting network settings)

when i click on manual it just gives me "server" "port" and "authentication" options... and static is the only one which allows me to change the IP..

it only seems to work after i run the network setup wizard thing, and then stops working as soon as i disconnect or disable my iphone's wifi.

what i dont get is that my computer's wifi adress is 192.168.0.1 (subnet 255.255.255.0) and yet my iphone which is connected and is able to run Remote for itunes is on 169.254.76.255 (subnet 255.255.0.0)

ipsw is available as a torrent all over the place, that's not the issue, if you upgrade you can't activate your phone without being registered as a dev

os3.0 is worth it tho

haha i'll wait. i got copy/paste already which im happy with, got MMS which i never use, don't have 3G iPhone to make use of tethering (which is already available anyways via other apps)

So it's not that big for me apart from the bug fixes. And I can wait those out

seems not all of the advertised features are in os 3.0 beta yet... anyone know how to modify carrier bundles on the iphone?
