I'm with fxit, I'll wait till it's at least $10 or below, not really craving the beta 3.0 to be honest.

MXit for iPhone

Have registered at Mxit - now part of the Mxit for iPhone beta testers. Will report back how it works. Should be fun to have it again and not those other chat programs running via jabber.

way off topic :) but!!! anyone looking for a decent case for their iPhone, I got this today in the post http://www.igear.co.za/pSWCOLIP3G/SwitchEasy-Colors-for-iPhone-3G.aspx and it is great! 1st thing the wife said is oooohhh!!! it feels like cyber-skin :) hehehehe! Best silicone case for the iPhone IMHO!

P.S. I got the Stealth version, not as garish as the others available, and it comes with some nice extras! It was a test with iGear before sending my iPhone in for repairs, and so far I am more than happy with them (iGear) and their service!

OK, what am I missing here - have upgraded to 2.2.1 but when I try to jailbreak, I go through the DFU activating mode. Press HOME and Power for 10 sec - release power and hold home for 10 seconds - as soon as I release the home button - itunes says an ipod has been detected but could not be identified properly and quickpwn hangs. I have tried it 3 times now. The phone is then "dead" and I have to hold the HOME and POWER button for about 30 seconds before it switches on again.

Try plugging the phone into the back USB port (not the one on your keyboard) as it's probably not getting enough power?

Then, just to check.

You are holding home and power, then releasing power while still holding home?

...and kill iTunes as well while running quickpwn.

Yes - also read somewhere to disconnect all the usb devices - will give it one more go.

Exactly, the latest leopard does not allow DFU mode, you need to install a special USB driver to bypass this but don't do it because it makes the USB port unstable...

I found out the hard way.

and the .ipsw??? zip or not?

Maybe you should make a note on the first post - iClarified does not say this anywhere...

Good thinking batman :)

@Aqua_Lung - Could you perhaps provide a link to the driver you are referring to so I can put that there as well? (If anyone wants to try it)

It's from the dev-team blog...

Fixing DFU mode on 10.5.6

As noted previously OS X 10.5.6 introduced a bug that affected the use of DFU mode. with some Macs. There have been previously published hacks and techniques to fix this, but here is another method that can be used to temporarily restore DFU functionality in order to use QuickPwn or PwnageTool.
You will need an account with ADC (Apple Developer Connection) this is free and takes a few minutes to sign up, you should read the terms and conditions carefully and you should only sign up if you are thinking of developing applications in the future - http://developer.apple.com/mac/
Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-315.4-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.5 Build 9F33” (yes, that is a “5” in 10.5.5 - this is a developer debug package of the USB kernel extension).
Unplug non-vital USB equipment, such as external DVD writers, USB scanners, USB mass storage devices, at the most leave a Keyboard and Mouse connected.
Install IOUSBFamily-315.4.1.pkg from within the disk image
Reboot your system!
Perform necessary DFU activity with QuickPwn or PwnageTool.
Download the disk image “IOUSBFamily-327.4.0-log.dmg” for Mac OS X 10.5.6 Build 9G55”
Intall IOUSBFamily-327.4.0.pkg from within the disk image
Reboot your system!
Reattach your USB peripherals.

If you don't intall the 'IOUSBFamily-327.4.0.pkg' file after performing a DFU your usb port can crash your mac.
