Maybe it's this Router Expander's fault.. Will look into it more...

It says its connected when I go to Settings -> Wifi but doesn't show the Wifi Bars in my status..

that means it cannot connect to the internet via wifi, i.e, the gateway isn't set, or it can't find a dhcp...

have the same issue with one of the routers in the office, which isn't actually connected to the network, but powered on...

the wifi bars implies it has usable network connectivity, if it says it's connected and there's no bars, it implies that it didn't get an IP assigned to it

it's not IM+ or beejive, it's push notifications combined with mms

that's my theory and i'm sticking to it

the phone has 2 apn's listed, one for mms, one for data, i'm suspecting there's an mtn mms waiting on the mmsc somewhere, so, the phone gets the notification that there's an mms, switches apn's to download said mms, download fails, phone switches back to data apn to re-activate push, realizes the mms is still waiting, goes back to beginning...

i've switched back to swirly mms as a result, that way, swirly shows you when it receives the notification that there's an mms waiting, but it only downloads said mms when you tell it to, so the data apn doesn't get swapped untill you actually open the mms in swirly

This makes sense to me, but why does it try to re-activate push if all push apps have been disabled? Only after uninstalling push apps that this problem stopped.
I'm not saying you are wrong, it just doesnt make sense to me.

The 20% battery life on PUSH is not too bad, I think the big question is the amount of data you will pay for.

it's not so much reactivating the push apps, it's reactivating the data apn

i had the phone connected up to the enterprise config util so i could see the console, the data handler on the phone looks terribly unstable, it tries several times to activate the data apn before it works

i'm wondering if fixing by uninstalling the push apps wasn't just fluke, because disabling push should've done it... try leaving the push apps on and just disabling mms (it helps to blank out the mms apn as well)

Guys is anyone else having issues with WiFi connectivity in OS3?

Yes I am, among a host of other issues, I am really fed with OS3, it feels like a downgrade rather than a upgrade.

My wifi takes like 5 mins to connect. I leave mine on at work and every now and then check my mail, but as I said it takes about 5 mins for it to reconnect. Really annoying. It used to re connect pretty much immediately. I really hope Apple releases a fix for OS3 soon else I am going back to 2.2.1, when I used to actually enjoy my phone.

Is it just me or does OS3 sap the battery? I'm recharging more often now, sometimes the same day... thinking of downgrading.

iphone 2G specifically.

I would have to test when i get home tonight... uninstalled the apps, and they not on my iTunes at work (quite a mission to use 2 versions of iTunes)

None, Turn-by-turn apps use their on map data files. Unless you mean SIZE, which would be +-100MB

Cool, was afraid that it has to conenct to 3g to work or something.

Will definitely try this one out - thanks for the heads up :D

Please could you? I cannot add it on Itunes, it tells me the IPA is not supported.
Thanks so much.

I have the same problem. 3 IPA's said that it wasn't a valid app and 2 started installing but gave an "unknown error" at the end.

Anyone tried XGPS yet?

My battery was also giving me shyte after installing a few push apps, and draining quickly. I did a restore over the weekend, and now its 100% even with the push apps enabled

Maybe somebody already asked, but can a Ihone bought in the USA and AT+T locked be used in SA. If no, can it be unlocked? The reason I'm asking is at Ebay they action the 3gS for less than 5K. Where is the catch?

iPhone water damage sensor

I knew about the sensor for a while now, but here is a nice Apple article covering the details on the moisture sensor. Note how they mention that it should only trigger if it was submerged in water. The best part about this is it is very easy for the user to check that there is no water damage before it goes in for some unrelated repair ;)

Edit: I also found this article interesting. It states Vodacom is responsible for in AND out of warranty repairs. http://www.apple.com/za/support/iphone/service/faq/
