what I can suggest, if you have the time to try this:

vodacom is a legit apple partnered carrier, so, theoretically, if you can convince the phone to start up on the VC sim, and then activate it, you should have push enabled fine...

so, long shot, but try it:

restore to 3.0
run redsn0w to jailbreak, install cydia AND activate
install ultrasn0w to unlock
install openSSH
now, delete the activation file from the phone (google this to find out where on the phone it is)
turn phone off
insert vodacom sim (make sure this sim does NOT have pin code enabled, makes things easier)
turn phone on

phone should now ask you to activate using itunes, connect to itunes, see if it activates, if it does, you're lucky, if not, well.... follow the steps again up to installing ultrasn0w

Tried this with no luck.
Removed the proxy settings and no luck.

So now I am trying to convince my manager to give me rights to the firewall so I can bypass the proxy for my iphone's ip. I am network admin here so its only fair I get the details. hehe

But I am going to try CNTLM proxy if I dnt come right.
 
What is the APN, username and password for the cellular data on an iPhone from Vodacom?
 
Damn damn damn, no question here just venting. My ring/silent switch on the top left side of my 3G broke this afternoon. Grrrr. Vodacare here I come on Saturday morning. Busy getting my 2G back up to speed with my apps etc. Needed to take it to get a "what looks like a crack but isn't a crack under the glass" looked at, and need to replace my invisibleshield with a replacement I got from Zagg (as mine was pealing) - so ... all just happened at once. I'd have been livid had I done the invisibleshield then it broke.

Still no luck with MTN-3G on an unlocked US iPhone 3GS.

I tried:
MTN SIM: fresh restore + jailbreak + unlock = no luck
Vodacom SIM: fresh restore + jailbreak and then try to activate according to Jerome's instructions, but iTunes said no (I think maybe because I use the USA store)
Vodacom SIM: fresh restore + jailbreak + unlock = seems to work

At this stage, the Utrasn0w 0.9 unlock and Redsn0w 0.8 jailbreak don't seem to work 100% with all carriers (and I don't mean those with different 3G frequencies). It also seems a little sensitive to which SIM card you use during the jailbreak and unlock (according to dev team anyway). Not quite idiot proof just yet.

Lame :( but this is what you get for being a cheap-skate. Guess I'll have to port my number to Vodacom.

Need help. Bought a unlocked Iphone on Ebay for a reasonable price, but it,s not recognize VC sim and I'm not a tech fundi. My Q are
How do I know it's been unlocked and if it's still locked is there a person in Pta that can unlock it. Will pay for the service
 
I just got back from the iStore on Sandton drive and I played around with one of their iPhones on OS3 and it is way quicker than mine, so I am definately doing a new install tonight ;)

Why not try and do a new install of OS3? Just get iTunes download OS3 and do a fresh install, might work? Someone advise?

did you try
settins -> general -> reset -> reset network settings
after the unlock?

this is exactly why I motivate waiting for the SA iphone, you'll be able to use it on any network, and never have to worry about if you'll be able to unlock it in future....

maybe you should consider selling that 3Gs to someone on vodacom so you can get the regular vodacom one for use on MTN? (and no, i'm not really interested in buying, will wait for vc unlocked iphone)

iphone 2G, iphone 3G, or iphone 3Gs?
 
Ja - tried resetting network settings and then reloading from http://wan.to/iphone

Am going to try activating phone legitimately with original AT&T sim and then do Purplerain unlock.

It's not over yet and anyway, worst case scenario is changing to Vodacom. I will have my cheap iPhone 3GS cake and eat it :)

Dis 'n 3g 16gig. Die man het 'n AT&T sim saamgestuur, so ek neem aan dis nodig om die gedoente aan die gang te kry. Hy se die foon is ge-unlock en ge-jailbreak. Ek is nie skerp die die goed nie, maar as dit nie te moelik is nie gaan ek probeer. As jy miskien kan help sal ek dit baie waardeer. ek stel voor jy stuur die foon vir die ou terug en dring aan hy gee jou geld terug

AT&T fone is nie "unlock" nie, at most kan dit tydelik unlock word met sagteware, wat weer breek wanneer apple 'n nuwe update vrystel

die 3G iphone by vodacom kos nou so 6000, dit is regtig die moeite werd om eerder een by vodacom te koop

laas toe ek gekyk het, het dion wired in fourways (cedar square) nog vooraad gehad

as jy die 3G eerder self wil unlock, kan ek jou wys waar om te sien hoe, dis maklik om te doen as jy net die stappe volg, maar soos ek se, ek sou eerder terugstuur en hier een koop, ons iPhones is ge-unlock deur apple self, en sal nooit weer nodig he om unlock te word nie

as jy wil he ek moet help, mail my by [email protected]

in the meantime, try to put your VC sim into another phone, then in the settings, disable the simcard's pin, make sure this works by turning that phone off, and on again, and see if it asks a pin, it shouldn't

once this is done, iphone off, sim in iphone, iphone on

i think you might have an older version of the unlock that needs this to be done (known as yellowsn0w), i'm also guessing you still on 2.x firmware, not 3.0

Nee dit werk nie, Dis die 3.0 weergawe. I think what I need now is a business or person who is willing to unlock it for a fee. Die teruggee en geld terugkry is nie 'n opsie nie. Die man is in die VSA. Dankie in elk geval vir jou hulp

Daar is 'n knaap op BidOrBuy wat adverteer dat hy unlock vir R599. En as hy nie sukses het nie, betaal jy nie. Hoop jy kom reg.
