you didn't hactivate you phone, you just jailbroke, he's probably got one of the cheap imports

Ok i got it sorted, I used the devteam's method of getting a valid key from someone's vodacom unlocked phone (he's not a power user -just makes calls sms etc so in trade i put on a few cool games and apps)

works fine now..

Iphone Forum Reader

Guys,

I was wondering whether anyone has come across and app like iHKG that serves as a reader for forums? I'm all for reading myadsl forums on Safari-micro on my 3Gs, but was hoping for something different.

Also does this topic have it's own RSS?

Thanks!

M

Need advice. Gave my 3g 8gig to my daughter. Two months later bought a 3g 16gig on ebay. Unlocked and jailbreaked, no problems and very happy with the phone. This weekend the daughter visit us and the feeling of the old phone is so much smoother and faster. For instance if I press both the contact buttons the same time the 8gig is about 3 to 4 secs faster. The same with the sms button. Can the unlocking and/or jailbreaking be the reason and if not what can be the reason?

Are you using Winterboard on your iPhone?

Or many apps from Cydia?

Now I'm curious - what did you use the "Vodacom" key for - unlocking? Linky for more info?

Thanks much.

No problem.

Just for clarity,

This is to sort out push notifications on and unlocked, jailbroken iphone 2g/3g

How it works:
When you activate an iphone legitimately ie. using itunes, the apple servers registers the iphone's serial number and stores it, so when you use a push app, it knows that that particular serial number is your phone's and sends push messages to that phone.

Now when you use ultrasnow to unofficially unlock the phone, your phone's serial number never gets registered to the apple servers so when you use a push enabled app, the server doesnt know who to send the message to.

There are some pushfix solutions on cydia and over the web, what they do is replace your phone's serial with one thats already registered. Do you see the problem with this?
If everyone uses the same serial number, who's gonna get who's messages and notifications?
I've tried the pushfix from cydia, it doesnt work properly, you get random push messages etc from other people cos your ALL sharing THE SAME serial number!

So how do you get past this?
Use a legit registered serial number that nobody else is using.

In my case, i have a friend with a vodacom bought iphone 3g, who bought it "cos it looked cool". He has never installed an app, doesnt know a thing about jailbreaking and has no interest in IM apps and such.. (You may have wives/sisters/etc who fall into this bracket)

I jailbreaked his iphone, extracted his legitimate key, and injected it into my UK unlocked iphone 3g. Voila, perfect working push notifications..

In return I loaded on a few cool apps etc.

If he gets around to using push then yeah, we may end up with each others messages, but by then i'll probably have changed my phone :D

so yeah, thats the whole process.
use it, dont use it...

TomTom for iphone is out there...

Hey folks

TomTom for iPhone has released on the USA app store, however, only 5 apps with maps that include new Zealand, UK, Western europe, USA and canada (if i remember correctly)

so i'm hoping someone's figured out how to replace the map sets... >hint< >hint< >nudge< >nudge<

Fxit man
Yes using winterboard and about 10 apps. Can winterboard be the culprit?

@Roland
Just saw that on xsellize

Wonder what will happen if you copy the SA maps from a TOM TOM gps device and use that on the phone, interesting, should play around with that, just hoping someone will crack it soon, am not going to pay $100 plus for an app I want to test to see if it works

apparently it's releasing to every country's app store today, as soon as it passes midnight, anyone with an SA app store account that can check?

But surely you should be able to get the SA one in the US itunes store? What if someone from the US wants to visit SA and will be looking for maps, lets hope they follow my line of logic

Sygic FTW yet again!!!! I have to say, I've been using Sygic a lot recently, and am very happy with it. Would be nice to have tomtom, but will see

well, according to the tomtom website, their "tomtom home" app for pc & mac can sync maps to the iphone app, and switch map locales, so, in that scenario, someone who has bought the USA tomtom app can "rent" the SA map set and switch their phone app to the SA map set with tomtom home

they should eventually release an SA version though, I'd rather wait for that than crack another version to an SA mapset, you're not really eligible for updates otherwise :(

pretty steep pricing though, around 100us$

tomtom + SA POI's tell you where all the camera's are, don't think sygic has this, not to the same detail anyways...

Ja the POI's is a bit of a problem, the POI it does provide is also impressive, but you are right, to get a TOMTOM that is designed for SA maps would be great, then you buy the app and just sync the map (ey look at the rhyme in that!!)
