R300 vs the expense of repairing the screen or case... worth it in my opinion, but then again I paid R240 :)

and then this morning I dropped my phone and it got a big dent/mark on the side. I shouldve bought that case :(

I gave my dad my 2G and he dropped it the next day, now the issue is that the pixels are corrupted where the status bar is, amazed that the glass never cracked though.

The 2G was/is plastic and not glass, but is sounds like it's the LCD that is damaged.

has anyone here updated to bitesms 4.3? I have and im trying to get the delivery report to work...I have entered a prefix for the delivery report but its not working. I got it off the sos iphone site. The prefix is *DR*

Anyone managed to get it working?

 I'm pretty sure it's glass...

yeah, the LCD needs to be replaced... although I won't be paying for it if my dad decides to replace it.

I had a chat with a VC call center tekkie now, helpful guy by the name of Rick.

He also said that they do not have a prefix to give me as its preloaded into the phone, and they dont know what it is. But he did open up a service call for me with a request to add this "feature". But he was very helpful with the matter.

Now my question is, is there no way this prefix can be taken from the code of another phone?

Prefix is service provider (Vodacom) dependant... Vodacom does not support it , and will never support it until they upgrade their systems...

I have spent a lot of time and effort trying to get this implemented.. The Vodacom representative on this forum (VodacomData) escalated this query all the way up to the "suppliers" in the UK, who told me that they simply responded that : "This feature is not available on the Unix(Linux) systems. (Router/AGAS/Store/SMSC)"

So I officially give up.... If it wasn't so much hassle, I would be on another provider in a heartbeat.. And if i could keep my number without paying extra etc..

Vodacoms EDGE coverage is appalling, a rival such as MTN puts it to shame, and offers this prefix that we need...

Poor show VC...

That is poor show to VC. They should be, or rather have the potential to be, the greatest supplier in the country, but seems like they dont want to be...

Exactly.. And Vodafone (their part owner as I understand) has this.. So why cant they.. total disappointment.. and they don't want to do anything about it.

Yes i agree

But is this a hardware or software feature? I would believe it to be a software feature, which means a simple windows update should fix the problem and update the server.

*And yes I say that with tongue in cheek cos I know it cant happen like that*

helpful as he may be, he's wrong

vodacom does not support the prefix based delivery report request, there's 2 methods, one is a setting in the control byte of the sms you send, the other is the prefix

vodacom uses siemens hardware only on their network layer, which doesn't support the prefix method...

prefix method is legacy, was additional support for older systems, not newer, and VC won't downgrade their network to support this

software update, and that has to happen on the iphone os, which apple doesn't think is needed, they believe you can assume sms' always deliver

So Roland, have you been playing around with 3.1 yet? If so any findings on battery life and some such tweaks? I've read on xsellize, that they might have worked on the battery life in 3.1, but its not confirmed
