Quick question....has anyone else experienced "stuck keys" on the iphone 3.0 keyboard? I know this is an oxymoron seeing that the iphone does not actually have a physical keyboard, but since upgrading to 3, I have noticed this occurance.

Its not a train smash, just a pain, I would press a key, and the tone would keep on ringing, and it would actually open the second row of special characters. I have to press another key to continue.

Anyone else have this problem?

Nothing on my side. Did you ever have Kenny's iKeyX installed prior to 3.0?

I don't get it, so one would have to type 'rrr' before he starts with the actual message? Once it is sent, how does the delivery report arrive, as a new SMS?

Yes for the most part. Im using BiteSMS which now in the latest release has a setting that you can put this prefix in. Then by default it adds it to the beginning of the message when it sends it. You dont see anything happen different then when you send a normal sms. But if you dnt have bitesms then put rrr in your sms on mtn and you will receive an sms or flash sms - meaning it just pops up displaying the message and when you push ok it disappears.

E.g. "rrrHello limnos, how are you?"

So Roland, have you been playing around with 3.1 yet? If so any findings on battery life and some such tweaks? I've read on xsellize, that they might have worked on the battery life in 3.1, but its not confirmed

haven't even considered it to be honest, they're not bringing in any major feature updates like they did from 2.x - 3.0, so didn't really see the point

speculation is that 3.1 will release on September 25'th, as AT&T has announced it will enable MMS saying: "MMS will be enabled through a software update on that day", so the speculation is that they are implying an iphone software update.

it's already been confirmed that 3.1 contains the default mms settings for south africa, suggesting it will be fully supported on VC on 3.1 (again, hinting that we'll follow the same path as at&t)

delivery reports have always been a return sms, mtn charge for theirs, vodacom doesn't

some phones just got smart enough to handle incoming delivery report sms' differently from normal sms', so you get the little check mark next to your sent sms rather than getting a message in the inbox saying "message delivered to xxxx"

I see this is done on Swirly MMS - once a MMS has been delivered it puts a check mark next to the message in the outbox and it does it for MMS's to Vadacom as well. Wonder how Swirly does this on the VC network then??

because swirly bypasses the phone's core mms interface and creates it's own(the phone used to not have one on pre 3.0 OS), that's why you have to configure mms settings within the swirly app

bitesms uses the phone's own sms submission api to send an sms, therefore it cannot access the control paramaters

interesting enough, an mms delivery report is also just a returned mms which swirly knows how to handle

Anything else I should know?
Thanks

what you should know is that you should have bought the iphone here, you're going to struggle once the new OS is out

Why is that?

PS:I have not bought it yet.. gonna order on 15th.

because us iphones are network locked, currently there is still software available to unlock these, however, this will not always be the case, so at some point you will no longer be able to upgrade to the latest software

rather pay the bit extra for an officially unlocked vodacom iphone

and if you're looking for the 3G, not 3Gs, they're not even that expensive

Well I am getting upgrade in like a years time, so I will get an SA iPhone then. I have 2 friends with USA Unlocked iPhones and both work perfectly fine. I am sure there will still be unlocks for the firmware next year sep

Plus a 16GB 3G for R2 200 is what I call a good deal;)
