Uninstall ultrasn0w? That's a good idea, that way I can see if it's factory unlocked.. right?

ya think??

cydia -> manage -> packages -> ultrasnow -> modify -> remove

but, if it's on there, it's probably network locked to at&t

if you bought it from ANYONE in the USA, it's definitely network locked to at&t

did you by any chance get an at&t prepaid sim with the phone....? (they throw this in so you can at least activate using itunes)

*****. Yes, it did come with an AT&T simcard. I'm going to kill that seller... ;( Don't know if I even want to try to uninstall ultrasn0w...

After installing can I go back into cydia and just install ultrasn0w again and it will be unlocked again?

yes

but you have to connect to the internet via wi fi like i said in the first post.... read

also, read the seller add again, it will say "unlocked and jailbroken", it will NOT say "factory unlocked", your fault, not the seller's... judging by how you only read half my first post

You have a k@k attitude... seriously if it's such a big problem helping people THEN DON'T BOTHER helping... geez

The AD said FACTORY UNLOCKED (See at the bottom of the screen). I also asked the seller before I bought it:

helpful hint though

if you ever do do firmware upgrades etc (keeping in mind you have to make sure it won't stuff your network unlock and all that), do it with the at&t sim inserted, that way you can use itunes to activate, then jailbreak, then unlock, in which case, push notifications *should* keep working for you

as long as itunes activates the phone and not some jailbreak utility, you're *ok*

add says "BLACK iPhone 3gS *16 GB * unlocked and jailbroken. NEW and NEVER been used!!"

Q&A says factory unlocked firmware (not phone i might add)

not a big problem helping, it's just annoying when you give an answer in writing and get asked the same question again, in my first response i said uninstall ultrasnow and if you're network locked reinstall it over wifi

own up to your own f'up and stop blaming others

LOL dude, factory unlocked is the biggest BS anyway, when I restore my 2G with pwned firmware it is recognized as factory unlocked under iTunes. :D

Sellers know how to fool the new buyers not clued up on lingo sadly.

PM from seller before I bought the item:

"Dear sange-x,

I'm not sure what software the Factory uses to unlocked them. All I know is that when a new Firmware comes out, you can just update it and not worry about it. You don't need to unlock it again after an update. Cheers. Houman."

AND IF YOU READ (take some of your own advice) you would have seen that I said in my previous posts the the seller also confirmed this!

true

but if you buy a phone in the US, you can't blame the seller for not telling you it's network locked, that bit goes without saying really.... that's sort of where ALL the controversy started isn't it?

Are you running 3.1?

Nope, OS 3.0.1. I just uninstalled ultrasn0w.. it starts up, saying sim locked. I then click on "unlock" and enter my pin, but no signal. So I guess it's not factory unlocked... o well :)

Yeah, every US iphone not sold on contract will not be unlocked and even if it's AT&T unlocked it's useless here without devteam releasing unlocks.

I learnt my lesson the first time and only by locally now, got a new 3G 8GB for R3700 thanks to this thread.

now this is interesting

the phone will explicitly say something like "unsupported sim/carrier sim inserted" once ultrasnow is removed....

try the turn off/turn on, then turn 3G off then on etc....

also, you can try saurik's article to restore to 3.0 (make sure you download 3.0 and shift + restore, select 3.0 file and restore)... sounds like your phone is factory unlocked, just struggling to find signal..... i could be wrong here, but i know the 2.x firmware complained in locked phones if you inserted an unsupported sim....

even the US phones sold out of contract, as in cash sold, they also carry at&t subsidies, no US retailer may sell an iphone that isn't locked to at&t, contract or prepaid

mmm... wierd...

This is what happens:

1. The phone boots up.
2. It loads springboard, then brings up an message saying "Sim Locked", which two buttons, OK and UNLOCK. While on this screen, I notice that at the top where the carier name usually is, it says "SIM LOCKED"

I enter my pin, and it goes in, but no signal. I turned the phone off (SBSettings -> Power - > turn off) and waited 10 seconds, and turned it on again, same thing happens...

Your iphone is now jailbreaked but not unlocked, you need to follow a ultrasn0w tutorial at iclarified.
