use settings on the first page, should just work, you can also change your "internet" data apn to "myMTN", makes mms much more stable

BUGGER!!!

removed iphonedelivery, itunes store's working.... dammit! but i like iphonedelivery!!!!

apparently a known bug, developer has acknowledged, fixed in the next release... joy.... :(

my itunes account is empty anyways, so i can live with it for a few days... not giving up delivery reports now... lol

I drive around quite often and I am experiencing MANY drops in calls using my iPhone 3G @ baseband 05.07.11. Almost every call I make it get dropped and I have to wait til my iPhone searches for reception again! It is so annoying!

Do you guys think it's Vodacom related or iPhone related? Will get my BlackBerry Bold back from a friend this week and test it - if that works I guess i'll be back to using 2 phones again!

try this, go to settings -> network -> cellular data network

under mms settings, blank out the apn name for mms, and disable mms messaging on the iphone

stabalizes a lot of call and data issues

it's a combination of network/phone issues, vodacom has some or other configuration that's not properly supported on the iphone, but is supported on most other phones, so, vodacom could change their config for iphone compatibility, or apple could update iphone software for vodacom compatibility, both blame the other probably though...

Thanks - just resprung. Let's see how it goes for today and tomorrow - otherwise as much as I hate to say it, i'll start using my twin sim again go back to the Bold for car use...

Just to also let u know, my 3G is always turned off when driving around.

might be part of your issue, umts technology deals much better with hand overs in general

My itunes store off my phone works fine with the latest update of iphonedelivery. Updated just yesterday...maybe im just lucky.

As for the calls dropping, i am having issues too with VC. Been going on a few days now. Think its more VC then the phone

Hello All

I've been handed an iPhone today and asked if "I can make it work here"...

It's an O2 networked locked MB496B 3G sitting at 2.2.1 and modem 2.30.03

Please correct me if I'm wrong - I need to use PwnageTool 3.1.4 to create a custom firmware from the official 3.1.2 ipsw which I must then shift-restore onto the phone using iTunes 9.0.1

It'll then be a jailbroken 3.1.2 with baseband 4.26 and will operate on the VC network but push notifications won't work anymore.

Did I miss anything or is that about right?

If u do not update using a apple
FW u will remain on the current modem FW. In my opinion, update to 3.0 then jailbreak with resn0w then get the custom 3.1.2 FW and restore and install ultrasn0w to unlock.

Don't know if it'll be that easy to unlock the phone on 3.1.2 (might be wrong as I am still on 3.0), but I know, jailbreaking and unlocking the phone on 3.0 is a breeze, just go to www.iclarified.com and follow the instructions on there (go to tutorials, then iphone, then unlock/jailbreak)

Tethering on 3.1.2 if you are not with vodacom

For those souls not with vodacom or who cannot get tethering. Seems you can now do it by hacking the commcentre on the iphone:

Note : its not for beginners (according to the site)

There is also a tutorial on iclarified for the mac users (link on the website), but the pc guys can also do it with winscp

restore to apple's 3.0

then restore to pwned 3.1.2 with activate checked

then via wifi install ultrasn0w on cydia

done

just give it some time and there'll be a cydia app that does this

This might be a stupid question, but I haven't tried it so thats why Im asking...

If I enable tethering in Settings, and I'm on Vodacom, will tethering automatically work, without doing anything else?

tethering works out of the box on vodacom with OS 3.1 or higher, as long as you've not fiddled with network settings
