Hi guys

Thinking of updating my software on my iPhone 3G 8gb. It is currently jailbroken on 3.0.1

Just wanna make sure I've got the correct procedure.
I first backup my phone in itunes then update normally to 3.1.2
Then download and run Blackra1n, Install Cydia
and everything should be cool...?

Will all my contacts sms's etc be fine? Also don't suppose it will keep cracked app data...

Lastly is it worth upgrading, I heard there was a performance boost too, is that true?

Thanks

I'm with Vodacom but I use the APN 'internet', the other one didn't work...

I don't see the point of tethering though because I have internet on my computer...

Obviously you will use your internet on your computer, but what happens if you on a laptop away from your router and you quickly want to check something on the net? Or in my case, my ADSL line ****ing out every time there is lightning?

Call your service provider and tell them to add the iPhone 'iphone.vodacom.za' APN to your number.

You've got it right.

Backup in iTunes (This procedure backs up: Pics,SMS,Notes,Application Data,Contacts,Call History and Settings) - make sure you've also got the latest version of iTunes.

Once phone reboots after restore of 3.1.2, you can restore your backup onto the new firmware.

Download blackra1n and you good to go!
Yes, all your Cydia apps will get erased and you will have to re-install them.

It's always worth upgrading! 3.1.2 is solid.

So that problem where you upgrade a jailbroken phone and loose space because of the partition made for jailbreaking is no longer a problem?

Google must be internet tethering.
No, wait : GOOOOOOOOOOGLE is internet tetherng - I don't know what Google is :D

So I upgraded to iPhone 3.1.2 on my 3G jailbreak unlocked on Vodacom but now tethering has stopped working. It was working natively now its not. When I tried to set it up it says no iPhone connected or something like that. Any tips?

What APN are you using? 'internet' APN won't work, have to get the iphone.vodacom.za APN attached to your number...

'internet' APN works for me..

oh yeah btw, i used about R80 worth of airtime on Sunday on my iphone but not sure how.. anyone got any ideas?

push was enabled for email and it downloaded a large attachment?
you browsed on the iPhone using 3G and downloaded +-40mb (expensive @ R2/mb)
you left the phone unlocked and dialled a number by mistake

could be a few things..

ask VC for an itemised statement or view it online on the v4me site

Did everybody with jailbroken phones change their default SSH password to something other than alpine? If you didn't, now might be a good time to do so.....

-Install RemoteTerminal via Cydia
-Run MobileTerminal
-Type su <enter>
-Type alpine <enter>
-Type passwd <enter>
-Type new password

You are now safe against the known attack vectors
