The IT profession

Agreed. I don't enjoy what I'm doing. Like I've said in previous posts, IT at varsity is a lie. It's nothing like the real world IT. Real world IT is boring.

BUT, I am doing quite well for my age. The money isn't THAT bad, but the expectations are.

The only boring aspect of IT is the associated documentation :)

Beyond that I don't think I've been bored for more than an hour in 14 years. (except some of the conferences I attended without internet access)

Attitude COUNTS - being positive and excited about what you do makes EVERY aspect of the "job" easier - if you enjoy it its not a job, its a way of life.

I do "live my career" but my career is not all my life has to offer - those who put in the effort will be able to balance work and personal life effectively.

Great things have been said in this thread. And most probable the key to understanding challenges.

I think I was probably g33ked out since my first attemtp at playing a game called sammy(similiar to snake on nokia 3310's) on a really really old pc way back as a child. My curiousity motivated me to investegate deeper and deeper into pc's. I broke some of my dads computers, got hiddings for it, but couldnt stopped digging at it. After finishing matric I knew for a fact that there was just no other career I whould enjoy more. Studying IT at tuks was quite dull, but made up for it by getting down to some hands on experience at a firm part time. Even today that curiousity transfered into getting down and dirty with new technologies way before they become standards. Strangely enough though, even in a market everyone said was saturated I was able to scrap together an awesome career. Reason not being because I'm maybe smart or this or that no..because its my passion. When me and my college buds come together all we tend to do is g33k out, and we find that fun(our girls just roll their eyes..but ohwell). I even feel strangely attached to a networks I lay out, and get upset when idiots mall manage them...yes I am a nerd...but my point is if you do this for money, then money wont come....money follows passion as does skill
