Next-Gen Kia Stinger to Boast More Power

The Kia Stinger is due for an update and more power is on the cards.

The new engine is said to be the 3.5-litre GDI turbocharged V6 which produces 283 kW and 528 Nm. The engine has the Smartstream tag, which means it has improved efficiency and emissions. Another interesting change is the addition of a variable exhaust system, which will be Kia's first application of such tech. Inside, there will be updates to the trim, as well as the addition of a digital dashboard. The infotainment screen size has grown from 8-inch to 10-inch. The article went on to say that updated Kia Stinger will be revealed in Korea in July 2020.

New 2021 Kia Stinger facelift starts testing at the Nürburgring

Flagship saloon will get a refresh for 2021 model year and lose all engines but the 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6

Kia is well into testing an updated version of its Stinger sports saloon, with disguised prototypes being put through their paces at the Nürburgring.

Although this is a mid-cycle refresh for a car that has been on sale since only 2018, the mule seen here is sporting extensive camouflage. Don’t expect a radical overhaul inside or out, but we should see the usual revamp of the front end to include updated headlights, a new grille and larger air intakes.

The interior should gain some of the technology upgrades seen in the recently unveiled Mk4 Sorento, including new infotainment and additional comfort and active safety features. Revised colour and trim options should also be on the cards.

Changes under the bonnet are more significant. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines are only available while stocks last and will be dropped in Europe by the time the facelifted Stinger arrives.

Kia will retain only the 365bhp twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre petrol V6 used in the Stinger GT S, effectively making the Stinger Kia’s halo performance model.

I Bought a Kia Stinger GT! (And Here's Why) - Doug DeMuro

I bought a "new" Kia Stinger GT! Today I'm showing you around my new Kia Stinger, and I'm explaining why I bought a Kia Stinger GT. I'm also going to tell you what I like (and what I don't like) about my Stinger.

Doug is Automotive YouTube leadership like the ultimate car nerd, he’s whole lineup of cars is truly unique and this just makes so much sense.

Love how he kinda roasted other YouTubers with their never ending Lambo, Mclaren, Corvette C8 etc....purchases. Classic.

Refreshed Kia Stinger revealed but no details yet on ‘new powertrain’

Kia Motors has released the first official images of its facelifted Stinger but has held back information on what it describes as the fastback’s “new powertrain line-up”.

While the design changes are subtle, the Korean firm claims the updates “amplify its gran turismo character”, while also pointing out improvements have been made to the cabin quality.

So, what sort of design changes have been implemented? Well, look closely and you might notice revisions to the LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights.

At the rear, you’ll also find updated taillamps complete with a new lighting signature, extending the full width of the vehicle. The new indicators round back comprise ten LED units each, arranged in a grid pattern to “mimic the appearance” of a chequered flag.

The facelifted Stinger is expected to hit the market in Korea in the third quarter of 2020, with sales in “many of Kia’s global markets” to follow later. However, Kia Motors South Africa says it has “no immediate plans to introduce the enhanced Stinger to the local market”.

Refreshed Kia Stinger: new powertrain option finally detailed

Kia has released fresh details of its refreshed Stinger, including information about a new powertrain option set to be offered in select markets.

The big news is the addition of a new turbocharged 2,5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, which slots neatly between the existing 2,0- and 3,3-litre units. Interestingly, rumours suggest this engine will be rolled out to some Hyundai N products in the relatively near future.

Expected to be offered exclusively in North America, the facelifted Stinger's “Smartstream” 2,5-litre T-GDi engine generates 224 kW at 5 800 r/min and 422 N.m between 1 650 and 4 000 r/min.

The most powerful mill in the Stinger line-up remains the twin-turbo 3,3-litre T-GDi V6, which gains a new variable exhaust valve system (in some markets) that Kia says not only delivers a “more prominent, deeper exhaust note” in the sportier driving modes but also liberates an extra 2 kW to take the peak power output to 274 kW at 6 000 r/min. Maximum twisting force is unchanged at 510 N.m.

Kia Stinger 2020 facelift: further details of updated flagship released

Sports saloon heads to Europe with upgraded interior, new colours and 3.3-litre V6

Kia has confirmed European specifications for its updated Stinger sports saloon, ahead of UK-specific details expected closer to launch.

As with global markets, the European Stinger will only launch with the twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre petrol V6 powertrain used in the current Stinger GT S, paired exclusively to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Existing 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines have been dropped, as Kia claims the majority of Stinger customers went for the more powerful variant.

The V6 benefits from a new variable exhaust system, which uses a butterfly valve to enhance or dampen the sound depending on the drive mode. It sees power increased slightly to 368bhp, with 0-62mph promised in 4.9sec - making it the fastest-accelerating Kia ever sold in Europe.

The Stinger will remain rear-wheel drive as standard in right-hand drive markets, which presumably includes the UK. It will still be sold with all-wheel drive in left-hand drive markets.
