The Kia Stinger Thread

Not bad looking but the quality of the build would be a concern ie rattling and road noise etc after 10000km.

****ty korean pos that falls apart after 100 000km.

Should I buy one?

The Stinger clearly is still to reveal the full scope of its ability. Next on the agenda will be a drive in a finished car on European roads sometime in the autumn, followed by a full road test desk examination in Britain as soon as possible afterwards.

For now, what’s equally clear is that the car merits close examination. Don’t be surprised if it’s good enough to get tongues wagging towards the end of 2017, to become a permanent fixture in Kia’s European model line-up – and to earn a creditable place in this magazine’s compact executive class rankings, too. Which, from a standing start, for little old Kia, would be quite something.

Kia says new Stinger is ‘not about outright power’…

As the Kia Stinger enters the final stages of its development, one of the executives behind the development of the new five-seater fastback has emphasised that it is not all about “outright power”.

“The new Kia GT is a true gran turismo; a car for spirited long-distance driving,” said Gregory Guillaume, Kia Motors Europe’s chief designer.

“It’s not about outright power, hard-edged dynamics and brutal styling all at the expense of luxury, comfort and grace,” he added.

“The new GT has nothing to do with being the first to arrive at the destination – this car is all about the journey. It’s about passion.”

That’s not to say the new Stinger is slow. No, the rear-wheel-drive flagship GT model – which employs a 3,3-litre twin-turbo V6 worth 272 kW and 510 N.m – sprints to three figures in a claimed 4,9 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating and most powerful car Kia has ever produced.

A 2,0-litre turbo petrol engine (190 kW/353 N.m) and a 2,2-litre turbodiesel (147 kW/440 N.m) unit will also be available in some markets.

The Korean automaker has also revealed that its engineers have developed two different types of suspension for the Stinger. While all models are suspended by MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear, a new adaptive system that alters the stroke length of the shock absorbers on the move has also been developed. The V6 model will feature this adjustable damping as standard, as well as a new braking system developed in collaboration with Brembo.

The Kia Stinger will go into production in the second half of 2017, with sales in initial markets starting during the fourth quarter of the year. Back in March, Kia Motors SA told CARmag.co.za that the Stinger was “under consideration for a South African introduction, most likely early in 2018”.

However, the local arm of the Korean brand added that it did not yet have any confirmation on which derivatives would be made available to “general markets” such as South Africa.

“Once that information is available, we will commence with a full feasibility study to determine if such an introduction is indeed possible. We are optimistic,” Kia SA told us.

Kia Keen to Sting SA with High-Performance Stinger

The new Kia Stinger fastback sports sedan has not been confirmed for South Africa, but a test unit has been spotted in Gauteng and Kia South Africa is dead-keen on bringing the model to market, but will it actually happen?

Kia is on a mission to change perceptions and step-up to the performance plate and it intends on achieving this with its new rear-wheel drive Stinger fastback sports sedan. The Stinger was shown earlier this year at the Detroit Motor Show and based on its appearance alone, it’s a cracker!

The Stinger is derived from the 2014 GT4 Stinger concept, which, with much effort, morphed into 5-seat sports sedan you see here.

The Kia Stinger was subjected to 480 laps or 10 000 km around the Nürburgring during a rigorous test and development program.

Although the Kia Stinger has cut its teeth on the Nürburgring Nordschleife during a rigorous test and development program, Gregory Guillaume, chief designer, Kia Motors Europe, is quick to point out that the Stinger is a "true gran turismo, a car for spirited long-distance driving. It’s not about outright power, hard-edged dynamics and brutal styling, all at the expense of luxury, comfort and grace. The new GT has nothing to do with being the first to arrive at the destination – this car is all about the journey. It’s about passion."

In terms of engines, the headlining act is a new twin turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 engine that develops approximately 273 kW and enables a zero to 100 kph sprint time of 4.9 seconds using an 8-speed automatic transmission, making the Stinger the fastest accelerating Kia ever made. When the Stinger goes on sale across the world later this year, it will also be offered with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine as well as a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine. All-wheel drive derivatives with Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control will also be offered.

Will it come to SA?

As it stands, the new Kia Stinger has not yet been confirmed for South Africa but according to a local Kia spokesperson, negotiations are currently underway to bring the Stinger to market in South Africa.

"We are still in negotiation with Korea regarding specification and, most importantly, pricing. Until the combination of these factors, i.e. a fantastically specced car at a competitive price, align, we cannot make any decisions. As such, we continue in optimism and pray that we can get the car at the right spec and the right price so that we can in fact bring it to SA."

"As for the single Kia Stinger seen driving around Gauteng, it will enter the formal homologation process and will in all likelihood be displayed at the upcoming SA Motoring Experience in September 2017 in an effort to gauge public interest."

Naturally, we will keep you updated as further information becomes available.

Looks Like Kia Built Itself A Real Goddamn Sports Sedan

You can take your BMW M3 and piss right off because this Kia here, this 2018 Kia Stinger GT, looks like it’ll be a right good and proper sports sedan. And for a fraction of the price, too, most likely.

While interviewing Ted Lancaster, Kia’s Canadian vice president, the guys at The Straight Pipes jokingly asked if they could see some pre-production cars. Their wish was granted: they were led into a storage area where two North American pre-production Kia Stingers were parked. They got video.

We know that the Kia Stinger GT is a 365 horsepower ass-hauler that can hit 60 MPH from a standstill in a claimed sub-five second time. It’ll be rear-drive and will probably do some pretty awesome donuts. And it won’t be priced like an M3 because it’s a Kia.

The Straight Pipes reports they were also taken for a ride but were forbidden to record it. The interior is nice, however, and it’s comfortable, they inform us. And the trunk opens as a hatch! Doesn’t look like a hatch when closed, but definitely a hatch. And with Brembos at all four corners, what’s not to love?

Now we just have to drive it.

Kia's are no longer cheap, so "the right price" will be out of reach of most. It will compete with the upper end of Audi/BMW/Merc, so in excess of R800K if you ask me.
