The Lynk & Co Thread

Lynk & Co 03+ Cyan Edition revealed as performance sedan with 195 kW!

A road-going Lynk & Co 03+ Cyan Edition has been unveiled by the premium arm of Geely as a performance sedan with track-inspired design cues. This study is based on the WTCR concept car that was unveiled in 2018 with a number of alterations that make it suited for public roads.

Compared to the aforementioned design study, the final product is rather different. While a large rear wing mounted to the boot and the bright blue finish with yellow accenting remains, the Chinese performance sedan boast narrower side panels and loses the stacked exhaust tailpipes at the rear in favour of a conventional quad-pipe system. Certain elements on the front bumper have also been altered. The headlamp design remains largely unaltered but the taillamp cluster has been slightly revised.

Lynk&Co and Nio: Chinese newcomers shine in Euro NCAP tests

Lynk&Co 01 and Nio ES8 secure five-star ratings alongside Audi Q4 E-tron, Subaru Outback and Toyota Mirai

Two Chinese newcomers to the European market have secured five-star safety ratings following "impressive" and "excellent" performances in Euro NCAP’s safety testing programme.

The Lynk&Co 01 - which launched in Europe last year but has yet to come to the UK - registered a 96% score for its adult occupant protection, including a maximum score for side impact protection.

Meanwhile, the electric Nio ES8 scored well through its automatic emergency braking system and a variety of other crash-avoidance features, leading to a 92% Safety Assist rating.

The ES8 went on sale in Norway in July, and Nio is monitoring the UK market before committing to a launch on these shores.

“A wave of China-made new energy vehicles in Europe is under way, with new models launched by BYD, Xpeng, DFSK, Seres etc.,” said Euro NCAP secretary general Michiel van Ratingen. “Unfortunately, many of these are still not so transparent to European consumers when it comes to safety.

“Lynk & Co and Nio, however, show that ‘made in China’ is not any longer a pejorative term when it comes to car safety. Here we have two new cars, both Chinese-developed, performing extremely well in our tests.

The Zeekr 001 has gone into production

“What on earth is a Zeekr?” Head this way for the 536bhp answer…

Big news from China – the Zeekr 001 has gone into production in a fancy 5G+ equipped factory in Ningbo.

Now, don’t fret if you haven’t heard of the 001. Zeekr is Geely’s all-new, all-electric brand for the Chinese market. And if you’re getting a strange sense of déjà vu, it’s because the 001 was first shown as the Lynk & Co Zero concept back in 2020. All a little confusing, no? Just remember that Geely owns everything.

Seems as though the 001 is a little confused too – it can’t decide whether it wants to be a proper estate, a shooting brake or a coupe-like SUV. It does look rather good though, and it’s based on Geely’s Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform so also gets some mega specs.

The twin-motor version gets 536bhp and 566lb ft of torque, meaning the 0-62mph sprint takes 3.8 seconds. It also gets a massive 100kWh battery for up to 435 miles of range, and with 360kW fast charging available it can top up from 10 to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes.

Zeekr 001 is China’s true Tesla rival

This is the Chinese EV Tesla should worry about.

Many of China’s electric vehicles will never be seen outside of the world’s most populous country. But Geely’s Zeekr, is not one of those domestic heroes.

As an established Chinese automotive company with global reach and Volvo’s technical resources, Geely plans to rival Tesla in many markets.

The first step to achieving this is Geely’s Zeekr sub-brand. Its debut electric vehicle is the numerically badged 001 and it projects no ambiguity about Tesla being a target.

If you are a keen follower of all things Geely, some styling themes on the 001 link to the Chinese company’s other sub-brand, Lynk & Co.

Overall proportions are what you would expect from a five-door electric vehicle, without any radical design features. There is even an implied grille, instead of a solid panel nose section.

Beyond the mildly handsome overall appearance, the Zeekr 001 has some impressive core vehicle numbers. Power sources from a 100 kWh battery pack and Geely claim this will give the 001 a very generous 700 km of driving range.

If you want to deplete that range number rapidly, you could use all the 001’s available performance. An electric motor at each axle nets the 001 a total system output of 400 kW and 768 Nm. Those numbers are potent enough for a benchmark 0-100 kph sprint of only 3.8 seconds.

Zeekr 001 2022 review

Should I buy one?

Currently, owing to supply-chain issues, the factory can’t keep up with 001 demand in China. However, once these are resolved, the car is likely to be heading to Europe. The question is 'as what?'

Most probable is that it will be badged as a Lynk&Co, as the original Zero concept was. Either way, early indications are that the 001 is in most regards a highly competitive addition to the EV market.

Lynk&Co reveals futuristic hybrid-powered concept car

The Next Day concept is packed with tech and can achieve up to 93 miles on all-electric power

Chinese-Swedish automotive firm Lynk&Co has revealed a futuristic new hybrid concept car with an eye-catching modern design and multiple powertrains.

The car, which the Geely-owned marque has named The Next Day, is the brand’s first model to feature a low-slung grand tourer bodystyle.

Lynk&Co has stepped away from the more conservative styling of its current models with modern features including twin scissor doors, a new front grille design and a dynamic rear spoiler. A light bar is positioned at the rear.

Inside, the concept is fitted with textured “wood-denim”, dark blue velvet upholstery and zero-gravity seats. Rear passengers, meanwhile, sit in deep bucket seats.

Lynk & Co CEO Calls the Auto Industry a Bunch of Sustainability Hypocrites

According to Alain Vissier, car-sharing and subscriptions are the only sustainable way to make cars. Coincidentally, that's Lynk & Co's main business model.

Lynk & Co, a Chinese-Swedish automaker owned by Volvo’s parent company Geely, has been working for years to make subscriptions and car-sharing work. In Europe, €550 per month gets you behind the wheel of a Lynk & Co 01, with maintenance and insurance included. Unlike a traditional lease, it’s entirely month-to-month, and the company allows you to rent the car to other users when you’re not using it. Apparently, Lynk & Co’s CEO is frustrated that more automakers haven’t moved to a similar business model, for sustainability’s sake.

Australia’s CarSales reports that, while speaking at the recent opening of a Lynk & Co facility, CEO Alain Vissier told journalists, “Sustainability is a buzzword. No car company is sustainable. The cars they make could make a difference to the environment, yes, but they do nothing more than 95 percent of the time and that’s not right. Environmentally, they’re hypocrites.”

Lynk & CO Is Learning How Hard It Is to Sell Cars in the U.S.

The company wants to bring a new EV to America but its CEO says parts of it are 'insanely complicated.'

Lynk & CO sells cars in China and Europe, starting with the 01, along with a few other models in different segments, intriguing mostly because Lynk & CO is owned by Geely, which also owns Volvo and Polestar, two very good car companies. Lynk & CO makes cars for people who don’t care about cars, and also hasn’t been worth thinking about much, because it isn’t sold in the U.S., though according to Lynk & CO’s CEO, they have plans to change that.

That’s because Lynk & CO are working on their first full-electric, a car they say is also being made with U.S. regulations in mind. That car, according to Automotive News, is intended to take over for the 01, which is a plug-in hybrid; the new all-electric is being readied for 2024. What makes Lynk & CO a bit different as a proposition — aside from providing you with a car — is that they are all-in on subscriptions.

From Auto News:

“There is still some work to be done but [U.S. entry] is definitely very high on my agenda and I am sure it will work here,” [CEO Alain Visser] said.

For U.S. sales, Lynk & CO will use the same subscriptions strategy it has used to achieve sales of about 28,000 cars in Europe last year.

[...]

Lynk & CO has separated its global business strategy from that of China, where the company operates as traditional car set up with around 350 dealers.

In Europe, almost all its sales are subscription-based with customers paying 550 euros a month for the 01 with the opportunity to cancel with a month’s notice.

New Lynk&Co 08 gears up for European launch in 2024

Hybrid SUV shares CMA 2.0 platform with next Volvo XC60 and takes design cues from radical concept

Lynk&Co has revealed the first official images of its upcoming 08 SUV ahead of an official unveiling on 30 March.

The seventh model from the Geely-owned car maker is set for Chinese sales during the second half of 2023. Plans also exist for the 08 to be sold in selected export markets, including Europe, starting in 2024.

A sibling model to the next-generation Volvo XC60, the five-seat SUV features a number of design cues first aired on Lynk&Co's futuristic The Next Day concept car, revealed in June 2022, although the 08 swaps that show car's low-slung, two-door silhouette for a more conventional upright bodystyle.

It does, however, carry over the concept's flamboyant split LED headlights, as well as a contrasting black trim panel ahead of the door and LED tail-lights that wrap around into the rear wings.

Lynk & Co 08 is an electric SUV from the EV empire of Geely

Lynk & Co is yet another brand from the vast empire of Geely, the company was established only in 2016 in Sweden. This joint venture between Volvo and Geely was created to focus on younger vehicle buyers and offer new purchase options for customers - Lynk & Co specializes in subscription vehicles.

The company has 6 vehicle models on sale in China while its Lynk & Co 01 model is the only so far sold on global markets. The new 08 is a stylish and sporty SUV that is built on the new EV platform CMA 2.0 from Geely. The same platform will be used by the upcoming Volvo XC60.

The use of CMA platform suggests that initially the vehicle will be available as a plug-in hybrid with a battery-only powered model to join the lineup later. Since it is much larger than the popular 01, it will be interesting to see if the 08 makes it to the European market and joins its smaller sibling in the subscription business.

New Lynk&Co 08 revealed ahead of launch this week

Hybrid SUV shares CMA 2.0 platform with next Volvo XC60 and takes design cues from radical concept

Lynk&Co has fully revealed its new 08 hybrid SUV ahead of its launch event in Shanghai on 25 March.

A sibling model of the next-generation Volvo XC60, the Geely-owned brand's seventh model will be sold in China from the second half of 2023. It's then expected to be sold in select foreign markets, including in Europe, from 2024.

It swaps the low-slung, two-door silhouette of 2022's The Next Day concept for a traditional crossover bodystyle. However, it carries over the concept's signature LED headlights within a near-grilleless front fascia that gives it away as an electrified model.

Moving round to the side, the door handles sit flush with the bodywork in the name of reducing drag and the wheel arches are clad in black plastic with a glossy finish.

I hope its good. I drove their first PHEV SUV in Europe in December, it was nothing to write home about. The battery ran out so fast you could barely drive it out of a carpark on electric power.

The XC40-based Lynk&Co 01 gets more power and a new look

Fresh update brings eighty more horses and an upgraded infotainment stack

Lynk&Co has updated its 01 plug-in hybrid SUV. The XC40-based SUV - that kinda looks like a Cayenne munching on a Camaro - now has more power and better entertainment tech.

On the outside, there’s a curvier front end with a glossy black grille, a fresh set of wheels and new tail lights. The powertrain’s been reconfigured too, so the 2.0-litre petrol engine and plug-in hybrid set-up bring over eighty more horses to the parade. Thusly, power has jumped from 188bhp to 276bhp. Lynk&Co tells us it's also worked on sharper acceleration and better handling.

In terms of fuel economy, it reckons the car will use less than a full litre of juice to cover 62 miles, plus, there’s also 46 miles of pure-electric driving from the 17.6kWh battery.

Inside, the electrical architecture has been completely overhauled, integrating a new central processing unit and a fancy new Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. Apparently, that means the Android-based 15.4in touchscreen is quicker to respond. The cabin redesign also introduces steering wheel controls for the first time.
