Does seem difficult to see the cots and not see the bed a few feet away....

not directly seeing Madeleine’s bed from the angle at which he stood.

I presume there was a built in cupboard next to the door blocking the direct view - if he'd actually gone inside the room he would have seen both.
 
the eyewitness was talking crap in the picture you can see the door handle and it is in the open position (the door) and maddys bed is right there, had the door been even half closed at any time of the evening he would have had to open it and STEP INTO THE ROOM to see the cots.

Took a look at this pic again -

If we presume B is the bedroom, from where the pic was taken if the door was open you would see the cots but not the bed.

Would suggest that he saw the cots from a distance and didnt actually go near the childrens bedroom.

yes but if you look at the picture on my post of the actual bed it is right in the doorway and there is no way in hell you can see the cots without seeing maddys bed.
 
nice pics.

matthew oldfield must have good eyesite to see 2 kids in their cots from across the room through a door opening and after all the alcohol they were supposed to have consumed.

It's a fascinating case

- if the parents were responsible how is it they they managed to not leave a single usable scrap of forensic evidence and how did they hide/remove the body.

If she died accidentally why all the subterfuge.

My gut is that the Tapas 7 are holding back information which on the face of it would appear to incriminate the parents - but which is not directly relevant to the alleged abduction. Drugs, coke ? Did Madeleine come across some sweeties....

I'm sure there are a thousand theories.

I suspect the truth will never be revealed and the jury will remain divided on what happened, when and how it happened and who was responsible.

Those voting yes - are you saying she was killed in the apartment or died accidentally in the apartment ?

There's a big difference between ' the parents did it ' and ' the parents covered up an accident '.
 
Not sure why but the drug angle persists.

Another theory ..

' Someone ' knew there were drugs ( coke, whatever ) in the apartment and that the parents were not away. There is a reference to someone watching the house intently. They knew or didn't know that the kids were in the house.
They ( he ) break in, find whatever, but Madeleine wakes up and sees the person. She is silenced, and taken away ( possibly to carry away any forensic evidence or to hide the fact that she has been killed ). There are again reports of someone carrying a child in pyjamas - but all the sketches show a child in a ' slumped ' position. It is unlikely that were she alive she would have allowed herself to be carried off in this manner. From there - the sea was very close by and presumably a boat.

This scenario would support the ' something to hide by the parents ' claims.

Of course the slumped position in which she was carried away may also imply some kind of sedation and she was alive and being abducted.

The Ulster detective leading the search for Madeleine McCann today reveals his most chilling theories yet, exclusively to Sunday Life. Hardened ex-RUC cop Dave Edgar told us he is convinced that little Maddie is imprisoned in a hellish lair – just like kidnapped sex slave Jaycee Lee Dugard.

He insisted the “back from the dead” reappearance of Jaycee – and the cases of Austrian cellar girls Elisabeth Fritzl and Natascha Kampusch – confirmed his suspicion.

And despite fresh leads taking his probe to Australia and Barcelona, the east Belfast man insists the golden-haired youngster is being held just 10 miles from where she was snatched in Praia da Luz two years ago.

But he warned that the sprawling wilderness where he believes Maddie is languishing is almost impossible to search completely.

he was convinced Maddie was entombed by an abductor in a cellar or dungeon, like Austrian cellar victims Natascha Kampusch and Elisabeth Fritzl.

“Maddie is most likely being held captive, possibly in an underground cellar, just like Natascha or Elisabeth, and could emerge at any time,” he told us.

He still feels Maddie was snatched by a man spotted by the McCanns’ friend Jane Tanner, one of the so-called ‘Tapas Seven’ who dined with them the night Maddie went missing.

Dave said: “Jane is a very reliable witness and there were other sightings of this man, who Jane saw carrying a little girl in a blanket, in the days leading up to the disappearance.”

He feels this is the lone prowler who has Maddie stashed in a cellar or dungeon in the lawless villages around Praia da Luz.

But Dave warned: “This rural, sprawling terrain makes it extremely difficult to search. You could quite easily keep a child there for years and no-one else would know.

“The person who has Maddie is most likely a paedophile or a person so desperate for a family they were willing to kidnap for it.

“I wouldn’t like to speculate on what is happening to her.”

Dave says the region where he feels Maddie is being held has attracted many strange characters, including convicted sex offenders.

“I don’t want to generalise or make gross exaggerations, but there are people there living on the edges of society,” Dave said.

He added there were as many as nine child sex attacks in the area round Praia da Luz from 2005 to 2007 and the victims included British kids.

Which is contradicted in the same article -

There is no evidence of any hair sample tests by the Portuguese authorities.

If they did have samples from the room they would only show whether or not any sedatives had been consumed previously, and obviously not on the night of the disappearance.

It would be surprising if this particular night they decided to use sedatives for the first time.

But then again... just more questions without answers.

Generally the Portuguese forensic investigation seemed to have been very shoddy. The room itself was not even sealed immediately.

and it's too late now for anyone to do anything else in the room or surrounds so they will just have to treat it as an abduction then.
 
For lack of evidence pointing to anything else that's how it will remain.

But - someone knows exactly what happened and we may yet find out.
