The Mazda CX-5 Thread

Fuel economy and power. The 210nm struggles sometimes especially towing.
Hope you find a reliable 2.2d model because they seems to have issues.

I have yet to read up on reviews of someone in S.A especially who has not had issues and has done high kilometers because they seem to be problematic and unreliable.

Thanks for the heads up. Have not really looked into the realibility. My petrol has been bulletproof so expected the same from the diesel

For the record my 2019 CX-5 2.2d is currently on 95000km without any issues (not exactly high mileage).
Lots of highway driving so probably helps prevent any DPF issues.

This is good feedback.
I guess it help that you a drive a lot on the highway..
How good is the consumption though and i am sure the diesel torque is lovely.

Consumption is around 7.3l/100 combined but on long distance trips it hovers around 6.5l/100 - provided you don't need to overtake too often.
The torque is addictive (as previously mentioned), I feel like the diesel engine is very underrated - probably would have sold more if its price was more attractive.

I can believe you about the torque being addictive.
CX5 diesel models are not that popular in SA as majority of people are buying the petrol variant.

I had the 2.2d it was amazing until it wasn’t. Scroll up and you will see how many times it was at the dealership. I think if it’s highway miles it’s fine but mine was mostly city. Open road I got 6.5L per 100. In city in the 2L petrol I have now is between 10 and 12L. This thing chows petrol.

I remember your 2.2d gave you endless issues.

Our 2L auto is still on 8.5L/100km mixed driving because mrs has a heavy foot and does not bother to drive economically lol.

Its a lovely SUV.

All-New Mazda CX-5 Due in 2025

The all-new Mazda CX-5 is due for market launch in 2025. Here’s a look at what’s potentially to come.

The Mazda CX-5 is the Hiroshima-based brand’s best-seller and locally, the big family SUV heads up the sales charts too. In Australia, the CX-5 was the best-selling SUV for seven straight years, until 2019.

The Mazda CX-5 has been a multiple finalist and winner in the Cars.co.za #CarsAwards over the years in the Family Car category.

“Senior management have confirmed there will be a next-generation CX-5, that’s coming. It’s a top selling model globally, so it makes sense,” Mazda Australia marketing director Alastair Doak told Australian publication Drive. “There’s a new-generation car eventually coming. But it’s not next year, it’s [further away],” he added. Based on that quote, the all-new Mazda CX-5 is more than 18 months away.

Quick question
My wife loves the CX-5's look as well as the drive, and friends of ours own one, and they love it as well.

I'm looking around for the fun of it, but one thing bothers me, and I might be a bit over paranoid for no reason, but what's the resale like on these Mazda's?

I like both the Tiguan 2022, and Mazda CX-5, I know the VW badge sports a better resale, but if you had to drive the CX-5 for 4-5 years, would you be happy with your return value?

I can't 100% confirm it for the CX5, but I got decent trade-in prices on both of the Mazda 3's I had.
Mazda is a good brand, so I'm sure you should get a decent price if you want to trade or sell it in 4-5 years

Without knowing any actual figures, I'd argue the difference might be so small as to make no material difference so go with the one you like, especially if the starting price and features are also different.
But also note where I'm coming from - for me choosing a car is far more than boxes ticked on a spreadsheet. So sure, do your homework, don't rush in, resale is important and all that. But there's two cars that meet most of your criteria and one scores 95% and the other one 90% but you just like how the 90% one looks, screw it, get the one you think looks nicer.
Oh and always get the one your wife wants.

Quick side question, what's the best bang for the buck, it seems to be the dynamic 2.0 model. Correct me if I'm wrong.
