The megapixel race

Ya... I must say, the 10megapixel camera as LOADS of setting, BUT the picture then comes out amazing... Lighting options are the best :)... but It doesn't have auto focus, so i have to flip it the whole time...

It's a nice peace of technology...
 
What Brand Names should be avoided in the Digital Camera (DC) industry? Companies who build buses aren't necessary good at building DC's.

I am a happy snapper (not shy to admit it, I am good at other things in life) so I am looking for a camera with a good balance between built-in functionality to fix those horribly-planned snaps and atleast some good zoom when photographing my son running into the icy water in Cape Town, without me having to following him :D

Any suggestions, say for a price from 2k - 4k ?

um... most are good, but every samsung i've had, broke(the software gives up)
A Sony Cybershot is good... And like all Sony products, they keep going, only with some things not working, then working again(this is after like 2-3 years)...

But, your best bet is just looking for a camera that offers the things you need...
You must remember that The big companies have a reputation to keep up with, so there's no big worry that they are going to ride on there names alone as the competition is to high and one slip up will cost a lot of money...

The Bigger the megapixel the more zoom you'll get, but rather get a camera with a good lens and a good optical zoom and digital zoom loses clarity
 
Stop dropping the damn camera,s and they will always work for years.I like good sony quality products,I am not fussy,but if i must i will even use a cheap dsc 3.1mp..

Thanks for the good advice - I will use it in my decision; currently look at the "Canon Powershot A560" upon recommendation from one of the other threads. tx :D
 
I'm not convinced about the more the merrier mega pixel argument. I have a nokia N95 with it's 5MP camera and quite frankly it's a load of rubbish compared to even a 3.1MP digital camera. I would have to assume then that there is a lot more to quality pics other than MP's...
 
Well, let's face it. The more pixels the more detail can be reflected. So larger pixel capabilities make for a better camera and picture, but as was mentioned earlier, other factors come into play.

my 1.4 MP sony cybershot takes better pics than my 2MP Cellphone cam. :)
