The Middle East Conflict Thread

And where exactly are they supposed to GTFO to??

"they have no other place to go and are not able to flee the Gaza Strip" - Ban Ki-moon quoted above.

Until now, the IDF has avoided taking action against the weapons caches found in private residences in Gaza out of worry for harming innocent civilians. The Southern Command has understood that the terrorist organizations exploit this policy of caution and have hidden weapons and ammunition in garages, shelters and rooms of Palestinian civilians' houses.

"From now on, things will be managed differently," said a source in the Southern Command. "We have distributed pamphlets to everyone. In the next stage we will send warning to each specific region, after which we will simply act against these weapons caches. There are places in which the civilians know they are living below weapon storehouses. This will not be allowed to happen anymore."

The IDF hopes that this process will put additional pressure on civilians to act against terrorists and distance them from settled areas.

Edit: I suppose there are some people stupid enough of not realising they have 5 metre missles stored under their bed, but I'm guessing for those that do have doubts, the mountains would be the safest place :D

Rule of thumb is if School A is housing terrorist organisation B, then School A and everybody inside is supporting terrorist organisation B therefore large bomb C is thrown into the equation. Its really that simple :)

Edit: I have a parent who fought in a war, who had to open fire on ter crowds with women and children scattered amongst them. The whole women and children should be protected at all cost mindset, in wartime, is what gets you and your own soldiers killed...

Since when is the UN a terrorist org?

Human shields anyone? What exactly was happening in the UN schools?

Learning how to make bombs

People were hiding, looking for a safe haven, if you read the article, the building was marked and the location was known to Israel. Stop trying to justify it!

Asked whether there were Hamas militants in the area at the time of the attack, Ging said it was the scene of clashes "so there's an intense military and militant activity in that area." He said UN staff vetted Palestinians seeking shelter at their facilities to make sure militants were not taking advantage of them. "So far we've not had violations by militants of our facilities," he said
So no bomb making, no human shields and all this other BS you guys are trying to defend!

under international law, installations such as schools, health centres and UN facilities should be protected from attack. Well before the current fighting, the UN had given to the Israeli authorities the GPS co-ordinates of all its installations in Gaza, including Asma elementary school."

This from Wikipedia

In World War II, strategic aerial bombardment claimed the lives of over 160,000 Allied airmen in the European theatre,[9] 60,595 British civilians and between 305,000 and 600,000 German civilians, [10][11] while American precision bombing, fire bombing and atomic bombing in Japan killed between 330,000 and 500,000 Japanese civilians.

Its totally situational. Take the Hiroshima for instance, read up about it. The city was the production machine for the Japs. Scattered amongst these factories were dozens of schools, churches, hospitals etc etc. America would've lost millions more soldiers if they had decided to proceed into Japan as they had in Iwo Jima. Those women and children weren't wielding guns or bombs, they were at school or shopping, half of them oblivous to what was going on.

Israel has given fair warning. They dropped millions of pamphlets before the operation advising every civilian to GTFO. Its the same rule of thumb today as in WW2, if you remain, then you are a supporter and are free game for any nasty piece of equipment that falls out of the sky onto your head ;)

Fair warning? No one has answered rwenzori question seriously yet, where are they supposed to go?

Israeli artillery Tuesday struck near a U.N. school sheltering civilians in Gaza, killing at least 40 people after, according to the Israeli military, Hamas militants fired mortars from the location.

"We face a very delicate situation where the Hamas is using the citizens of Gaza as a protective vest," Israel Defense Forces spokesman Brig. General Avi Benayahu said after the incident.

The Israel Defense Forces said a mortar-firing operation and a pair of prominent Hamas operatives -- Imad Abu Askhar and Hassan Abu Askhar -- were at the occupied school hit Tuesday

"This is not the first time that Hamas terrorists have used Palestinian civilians as human shields and has exploited their deaths for the benefit of the international media," an Israeli statement read.

But of course, as always, it's evil Israel huh

Do you check/read through your own articles? This dates back to 2006?:confused::confused:

Starting to clutch at straws... I've seen the UN man in Gaza(John Ging who clearly has no bias or agenda) on CNN, BBC and AJE make it clear a number of times that the people killed were only civilians seeking refuge.

Some people are just heartless dismissing civilian deaths as if "they deserved it". I don't think I'll be posting here anymore.... the thought of replying to people who are this sick does not make me feel comfortable.

The reports said "people" were seeking refuge in the school - terrorists, although they don't behave civilised, are still people.
The schools were not the target, and it was artillery shells and not guided missiles, which landed near the school.

We didn't see the drones pictures!

You've stopped posting here a few times :D

Did you read my post! The UN vetted the "people" before giving them access to the building.

I wonder whether either side gives a fig for the Geneva Convention...

The thought of allowing women and children to be party to terrorist activity while hiding behind the guise of "civilian" is equally sick. Sure Israel can be reckless, sometimes even falling for the bait set by Hamas, like this UN school, but I doubt anybody is suggesting they are targetting civilians. They weren't the ones firing hundreds of rockets over the border :)

Besides, nobody's being heartless and I'm sure most of us are in favour of roadblocks and house to house searches rather than spray and pray tactics.

And what "U.N man" might that be?

Also please explain the logic behind attacking a U.N school if there wasn't any Hamas operatives there?
