The Middle East Conflict Thread

haha I'm going with 5 :D

Frankie is still posting that? when it was proved by experts to have been translated for maximum propaganda effect by MEMRI.

link

The sick ones are MEMRI who use a kid show for their propaganda/smear.

We got it the first time, stop spamming the thread with repetitive garbage!

Yeah we have heard your propaganda before, it is getting old. Go and read the numerous threads and posts. Maybe I should make some Mickey Mouse cartoons for you guys, then maybe you would get it ;)

Its Hamas...
Can we have another thread with the daily updates on the war?
I dont find these idiots bickering amusing at all...

Remember when pointing a finger you have three pointing back at you :D

Please note

Can we please knock of the bastardisations of the names of various groups etc - it detracts from the debate, causes unnecessary work for the mods, and will lead to the removal of posts and the eventual closure of the thread should it persist.

It's also often a case of violating the forums inappropriate language rule.

I'll reopen this thread in an hour or so after everyone has had time to take heed of this request.

So all in all, how will the conflict be resolved permanently?

IMO one unified secular state with a secular constitution, I think it's too late for a two state solution since Israel does not plan to give back any land AFAIK.

Hamas are a terrorist organisation, ask the EU, USA and Israel.

At least Israel are not indiscriminately shooting rockets in the air

On 17 June 2008, and after months of mediation by Egypt, Egyptian mediators announced that an informal truce was agreed between Hamas and Israel.[77] The truce was set to start from 19 June 2008. Israeli officials initially declined to confirm or deny the agreement [78] while Hamas announced that "[it] will adhere to the timetable which was set by Egypt but it is Hamas's right to respond to any Israeli aggression before its implementation".[79]

On November 5, 2008 the ceasefire began to break down after Hamas militants digging infiltration tunnels into Israel were discovered by Israeli Defense Forces and fired upon. Hamas responded with a barrage of rockets which led to Defense Minister Ehud Barak giving approval for Operation Cast Lead, a series of airstrikes across Gaza, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert after discussion with Barak decided to put the operation on hold.[80] On 23 December 2008, Hamas issued a statement declaring the six months ceasefire was over, Hamas blamed Israel for the end of the ceasefire on Friday, saying it had not respected its terms, including the lifting of the blockade under which little more than humanitarian aid has been allowed into Gaza.[81][82] The following day, following the launch of more than 70 rockets from Gaza targeted at Israel,[83] Hamas issued a statement that they would consider renewing the expired truce—"if Israel stopped its aggression" in Gaza and opened up its border crossings.[84] The previous six weeks had seen a "dramatic increase" in attacks from Hamas, spiking at some 200 or so a day, according to the Israeli government.[85] On December 24, Israeli President Shimon Peres visited the western Negev town of Sderot which has been bombarded by Hamas rockets on a regular basis. Joining with residents in a Hanukkah candle-lighting ceremony, Peres said: "In Gaza they are lighting rockets and in Sderot we are lighting candles."[86]

Over the weekend of 27-28 December, Israel implemented Operation Cast Lead against Hamas. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said "We warned Hamas repeatedly that rejecting the truce would push Israel to aggression against Gaza."[87]Hamas has estimated that at least 100 members of its security forces had been killed.[88] According to Israel, militant training camps, rocket-manufacturing facilities and weapons warehouses that had been pre-identified were hit, and later they attacked rocket and mortar squads who fired around 180 rockets and mortars at Israeli communities.[89] The chief of Gaza's police forces, Tawfiq Jabber, was among those killed. In its attempt to avoid civilian casualties, Israel sent out thousands of cell-phone messages to Gaza, urging residents to leave homes where weapons may be stored.[89] Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak indicated the operation will continue until the firing of rockets from Gaza into Israel ceases.[90]

The Muslim faith cannot have peace with Abrahamic faiths, it is impossible. Both claim to be the chosen ones of God. The Abrahamic faith claims God's chosen in Isaac, yet Muslim faith says Ishmael is God's chosen.

They are destined to war until the end of time and maybe we need to break this hollywood ideal of an end to this war because the end will be when either party is totally annihilated. Read The Bible and read The Koran, in both they were commanded to destroy each other. There-in lies your answer :)

You DO pick your references LOL! One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

No - they're indiscriminately firing on UN schools and killing women and children.

Rule of thumb is if School A is housing terrorist organisation B, then School A and everybody inside is supporting terrorist organisation B therefore large bomb C is thrown into the equation. Its really that simple :)

Edit: I have a parent who fought in a war, who had to open fire on ter crowds with women and children scattered amongst them. The whole women and children should be protected at all cost mindset, in wartime, is what gets you and your own soldiers killed...

Please stop it with the "women and children" rubbish.
Those "women and children" are just as likely to be suicide bombers.
