The Middle East Conflict Thread

Cant say I blame the media, maybe they are also sick and tired of the world being thrown into chaos in the name of Islam. Mudslinging? You are the one who does it and then moan when you get your own medicine?? Sounds like the tactics the Pallies are using. :D

Ethel!:p
CNN and Fox are the worst! Actually I wouldnt say Pro Israeli, rather anti Islam...

CNN Europe has been pretty neutral with the Gaza conflict I must say, they are not taking Israel's side and actually questioning them seriously.

Well I did provide evidence of Republican prejudice. You're just sore because your gf Ethel got pwn3d in the other thread LOL!
:D

Frankie, the main American news media are mostly anti-Islam, and mislead public perceptions to varying degrees. There is an interesting study about this in relation to the war in Iraq ( if anyone here actually wants to debate seriously instead of the predominant mudslinging ):

It is interesting that Republicans are far more likely to be taken in by the falsities than Democrats.

Yes we remember the bias. New Republic lie fest "Shock troops", CNN head of news claiming he had proof of dozens of journalists deliberately murdered when he had none and then forced to resign to save DNN's anymore embarrassment, Daily Mirror publishing fake pics, Newsweek "Koran down the toilet" crap, Reuters doctoring photos of Israeli attacks against Hizbollah and now already a French news channel has already admitted lying, CNN has just been caught out as well so soon they'll too have to retract the "mistake". There will be many more media "mistakes" coming to the surface over the next new weeks

Just like you hey? Funny I have not seen you once defend the Jews or Israel. Funny that hey? ;)
Objectivity is definitely not your strong point.
But then you probably going to be a criminal attorney, right?

An extremist organization is having a confrontation with a modern democracy. Of course Xarog would pitch up defending the thugs and demonizing the democracy.

God forbid he does criminal law given his insatiable appitite for defending thugs on this forum

That settles it then. DNN are living up to their reputation of bias :o

Thats your problem right there, why should you expect Israel to just sit back and take the abuse? Why should Hamas be allowed to do as they please?

You right they must not sit back. They must turn on HAMAS for getting them in this mess. Spending all their aid money on weapons instead of infrastructure while provoking Israel . They now are feeling the wrath of Israel instead of living in a peaceful co-existence like Jordan and Egypt enjoy with Israel

How can you co-exist with people oppressing you? Jordan and Egypt was always Jordan and Egypt nobody came to squat on their land.
The Palestinians were sick of being constantly treated like crap by Israel, their way out was vote for Hamas, sure maybe they should suffer the consequences but rather that than stand down and give in to Israel.

Same like some of us who voted ANC into power, it worked.

...

The original source about the percentange of its resources (90%) that Hamas spends on social projects came from the fricken council on foreign relations. Do you even know who you are calling biased?

From wiki (bold mine) :

The bolded names are just the names I recognise. Colin Powell is one of the current directors, and I am pretty certain that Bill Clinton was a member at some point. You think the CFR is biased towards Hamas? FFS, please get real.

It says it was written by URI AVNERY and this guy does not like israel.

You do realise that I am a white South African with ancestors going back to the french hugenots, right?

Point being?

Actually, changes started occuring in the 80s when the nats realised that their total onslaught philosophy was failing. Much like Israel will eventually realise that their total onslaught policy is failing. Note how the nats painted the whole thing as an existential crisis, much like Israel does today. And obviously there are plenty moderate Israelis going about their daily business JUST like white South Africans used to do. There are Israelis who violently oppose what is going on, JUST like white South Africans used to oppose what was going on. Do some research on Israeli conscientious objectors, for goodness sake. How many South Africans refused to serve in the SADF for moral reasons and spent their time in prison? Surprise surprise, another shocking paralell.

The circumstances were different in SA as I have already said. The black population here was many times bigger than the white population so is was not feasible to carry on in that way forever. The situation in gaza is different because israel doesnt need them to in their economy so couldnt care less if they live seperately. Not very many south africans refused to serve in the army. I think the highest % was in the 80's when they had to do township duty and that figure was only about 13%.

At the rate it is going, with the expansions and the drama, Israel will one day be forced to annex both territories. If it sees the markings on the wall before then, it will being an earnest peace process and give Palestinians a true and viable state. If it doesn't, it will be forced to annex the territories (or commit genocide, but this is unlikely), and from then on, with the birth rates as they are, it will only be a matter of time before Israel either has to give up its Jewish character, or it will have to cease being a democracy.

A state for the palestinians is only viable if hamas recognises israel.

They never tunneled under the border. There was a tunnel near the border. Israel claimed that Hamas intended to dig into Israel, but this assertion is entirely without any proof. (I.e. Israel is making claims about Hamas' intentions which it cannot prove)

Then tell me what the reason for digging a tunnel near the border is, if not to go under it.

Trade deficit is at $16 trillion. Budget deficit is at 1.2 trillion. So, the US would have to work for an entire year, spending NOTHING on itself and giving everything it earns for over a year before it will reach balance.

What do you call it when you have to work for a year just to pay your debts? That's not merely bankrupt, that's when you're in a state of being "fuxxored".

Its called a recession. Many countries have a lot of debt, it doesnt last forever.

As I said before, we are just going around in circles.

Because they're harbouring terrorists. Just. Don't. Do. It.

As I've stated before, changes were in motion. The people of Palestine were too impatient and voted terrorists into power - failing to realise this problem has built up over 50 years and wasn't going to be reversed over night. Israel were being cautious and taking it slowly to protect their interests (that being the safety of their citizens). Now, thanks to Hamas, the process has gone backwards.

In whos motion? Israel came up with a truce? whats was the content of the truce? You get you own road dont use our roads??? It was a BS bid to "live in peace" ofcourse they and even I would vote against that regime!!

Israel was funding the Palestinian Authority when Fatah was in power; Jewish Settlements were closed and they were relocated; troops were pulling out of Palestinian areas; the borders were open; some degree of autonomy was granted to Palestine. Given several more years we may have seen quite a few more changes for the better of the people of Palestine, of course that's all just speculation now.

+1 .... is it too much to ask, that any truce be in the best interest and fair to both parties and that Israel and Palestine people be treated equally ...

Correct, Israel withdrew from Gaza and dismantle settlements at a create political cost to them. The deal was land for peace. Did they get any good will back from the Palestinians? No, only thousands of rockets.
