The Middle East Conflict Thread

There were rockets ( not primitive, Soviet ) launched against Voortrekkerhoogte and against the petrol storage tanks in Durbs IIRC. I remember having the general area of launch of the VTH ones pointed out when training there.

Memory is old though.

I found one reference - no doubt you could Google more:

Interesting, but I was thinking of the pallies firing rockets at military installations.

Not to mention has he ever been attacked with Rockets because he is Jewish? Has he ever been gassed in gas chambers because he is Jewish? Has 6 million of his people been slaughtered because they were Jewish? No, didnt think so.

Again with the victim thing, what does the holocaust have to do with this conflict?

Israel is not = Jewish, in the sense that at least half the world's Jews ( defined stringently ) do not live in Israel, and a quarter of Israel's population is not Jewish. I am sure you would find many Jewish people opposed to Israel's actions. The Holocaust has nothing to do with the present conflict, and, if Israelis are attacked it is primarily because they are Israeli, not because they are Jewish.

On both sides ?
Particularly the side that calls for the destruction of the other and denies it's right to exist.

Hamas Calls for Destruction of Israel
“We succeeded, by Allah’s grace, to raise an ideological generation that loves death like our enemies love life. We will not abandon the way of jihad and shahada [martyrdom] as long as one inch of our holy land is in the hands of the Jews. “Congratulations to our people…A day will come when our flag will fly above all the quarters of our land. Our flag will fly on the minarets of Jerusalem, and the walls of Acre, and the quarters of Haifa.”

As opposed to the side who thinks the land is their personal god-given right and who tells the others where they can and can't live ?

The solution simply doesn't lie with the one side doing something and the other doing nothing.

The solution for this problem is for the Arabs to renounce violence and terrorism and to enter peaceful negotiations with the Israelis for them to return to their land, get jobs and start living like peaceable human beings who want to be part of the Human Race. Until the Palestinian terrorists, Jihadists and Arab Aggressors give up their campaign of violence, terror and suicide bombings... and recognize Israel and the Jewish people as having a right to exist this is not going to go away. The Jihadists are the aggressors. They claim that their Koran commands them to wipe out all infidels. They refuse to give Israel a land, and they hate the Jewish people. They are racist blood thirsty scum who should be wiped off the planet so that the rest of us can get on with civilization and progress. THAT is the solution.

Israeli reports said that of about 100 targets hit in two waves, less than ten bombs missed their designated targets, all of which were military or paramilitary facilities belonging to Hamas.

So a 10% failure rate is acceptable ? 10 bombs landed on non-military targets, ie civilian areas.

How many crappy Hamas rockets will need to be fired to even come close to the devastation those 10 bombs caused ?

To launch sophisticated weapons into a civilian area is just barbaric.

Read the condemnation coming from across the world - are they all wrong ?

Are there any countries supporting Israel in this atrocity ?

Fair spoils of war.
Perfectly fair for the Palestinians to keep attacking them to take the land back too. As long as Israel continues to occupy this land the Palestinians will be perfectly justified in attacking, but they should restrict those attacks to Israeli soldiers.

there is no "negotiating in good faith" with terrorists who deny your right to exist as a nation.
Which, the Israeli terrorists or the Palestinian terrorists?

Both sides are guilty.

When I was younger I fully supported Israel, but the more I learned the more I realised they have done everything they can to keep up the hostilities. They feign innocence and surprise when their aggression results in attacks. Any time an Israeli gets killed in an attack they respond with collective punishment. They kill civilians, then expect to be considered heroes valiantly defending themselves. Next time the police find out a murderer is hiding somewhere they can just bomb the entire neighbourhood and blame the murderer.

On the other side the Palestinians cannot pretend to be blameless. There is no real excuse for arbitrarily firing rockets into Israel. They have every reason to be angry and Israel has no justification for their brutal attacks, but that does not justify attacking civilians inside Israel. Kill occupying Israeli soldiers certainly. Kill members of the government.

The United Nations gave Israel land in 1948 for their people to settle. They intended for them to peacefully co-exist alongside the Palestinian people. Egypt, Jordan and Syria invaded the newly formed nation of Israel determined to wipe them off the face of the earth, but Israel spanked their sorry asses and chucked them out. They gave (most of) the occupied land back to the Palestinians. Ten years later, Egypt, Jordan and Syria tried again with an army of 600,000 men to "wipe Israel off the face of the earth and drive them into the sea". Once again Israel spanked their asses. This time they did not give the occupied land back. I would not have either.

If my neighbour next door denies my right to live on my land and to exit peacefully and keeps calling for my destruction I will also kick him out of his house. I don't give a shirt who thinks that is unfair. If it comes to the safety of MY family I will kick any aggressor out. So be it. Tough Cookies for him.

What kind of mentality thinks you can simply bomb the problem away ?
The problem with these situations is that the aggression becomes entrenched. Accusations fly both ways, both sides are guilty of numerous transgressions, there is total mistrust and no-one wants to give anything.

Just how stupid and idea less is the israeli government ?
Their government is a perpetual coalition and the only way to get anything done is by getting the co-operation of the extremist parties, and amongst their demands are maintaining the current situation. Amongst those extremists are people who would be perfectly fine with just slaughtering every last Palestinian.

Part of the problem is the fact that Israel is allowed to continue committing criminal acts pretending it is self-defence. Why are there no sanctions? Why are they not being cut off and isolated?

So the Israelis don't need to change anything ? The problem is purely the fault of the palestinians?

No, the Peace-loving Palestinians are caught in the middle... but many of their brothers are sympathizers with Hamas, and aggressive Arab states. They made their intentions clear though when they voted Hamas into power in their first democratic elections. Now I have no sympathy for them. They voted for a Terrorist group who is bent on the destruction of Israel. They got their just desserts. They could have negotiated with Israel. Instead they chose the suicide bombers.

And quite rightly you'd be arrested. Knowing your likely behaviour I might want to deny you access because I could see in advance you were going to be an aggressive and dangerous neighbour. So I would want to throw you out of your house.

The majority of South Africans also voted for a terrorist group.

Does this give the Boeremag the right to bomb them ?

I think the SA terrorist group that you're referring to renounced terrorism , which cant be said for the pallies.
