The most graphically advanced game?

well DX11 was anounced on paper, think last week - saw it somewhere on a tech site, will run on current dx10 cards.

there is however little gain over 10.1 to 10.0 from what i've gathered so far.

If thats the case then that is very interesting indeed.....

MICROSOFT officially announced DirectX 11 during its Volish Gamefest 2008 developer conference in Seattle, Washington.

The latest Microsoft multimedia API package will include improved multi-threading capabilities, hardware-based tesselation and new shader technology that re-positions GPUs as general-purpose parallel processors [cough!].

Microsoft CTO Chris Satchell explained that the company wanted “to break away from purely having a paradigm of pixels, vertices and shaders."

The Vole has also graciously decided not to force users to purchase DX11-specific hardware. Satchell readily admitted that Microsoft had deliberately created a discontinuity between DX10 and DX9, but emphasized that "DX11 is totally compatible with DX10.” µ

But, I read that the new ATI HD4000 series have most of the features that dx11 offers, and that's good to see, but also, the HD4800 series supports ray-tracing and tesselation...
So I think it's a same bet getting your paws on a HD4800 series

 I Agree :D

The most amazing game that was miles ahead of ANY other game was "countdown" from back in 94 or so ... the game was HUGE with a total size of 20MB. *Keep in mind Spacequest 3 from the same period fitted on 2 stiffies*

I would have to say cryengine 2, used by crysis is by far the most advanced engine in use today. Unreal engine 3 doesn't hold a stick to it.

I disagree. UE3 is also an amazing engine. In the end its what the devs do with it.

Bioshock & UT3 are both stunning in their own right. (I still need to buy mass Effect)

I have both GEARS and Bioshock and while they are both stunning games they do not compare to Crysis on high settings, not even close.
